The release of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on a conditional bail has added a new chapter to the case surrounding the proposed 'Lehra Do Tiranga' march in Delhi. Dipke was released on Saturday after being arrested on his way to Connaught Place and one of the conditions of his bail is to ensure that there is no breach of p eace on his part for the next one year.
One-Year Peace Condition Attached to Bail
Dipke was produced before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) at Mandir Marg on Saturday and released after being granted conditional bail.
According to news agency PTI, Dipke was arrested on Saturday morning for allegedly violating a peace bond he executed on October 10. One of the conditions on his bail is to maintain peace for a period of one year. More details on the conditions of his bail are expected to surface as the order is released.
Detention Followed Tiranga March Call
Dipke had called for a 'Lehra Do Tiranga' march on Friday, October 16 at 5 pm. Delhi Police had sent him a notice on the morning of the proposed protest asking him to desist from taking part in it, giving him notice of prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Despite the notice, Dipke proceeded to Connaught Place on his motorbike on the afternoon of the 16th and he was detained a short while later. All India Students' Association (AISA) activist Neha Bora was also detained near Mandi House. Activists of AISA and CJP have since claimed that Dipke and Bora were not seen after being arrested.
Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka Still in Custody
With Dipke out on bail, another CJP spokesperson appears to be taking on more responsibility. Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, spokespersons for the CJP, were sent to judicial custody on Wednesday by a Special Executive Magistrate after they, along with other CJP members, entered the de-notified Jantar Mantar protest site.
While Dipke was released on a personal bond, CJP leader Ajinkya Shinde was released on a personal bond as well.
Police Accusations of Trespassing and Breach of Peace
According to Das and Ranka's lawyer, Delhi Police has accused them of criminal trespass and breach of peace. They are said to have signed a bond before a Special Executive Magistrate at Delhi Cantonment Police Station on Sunday, which forbade them from committing any act of breach of peace.
The CJP members' cases are still pending in court, and Dipke's conditional release appears to be only the latest development.
