Tukaram Mundhe was born on 3 June 1975 in Beed district of Maharashtra, and belongs to a farming family. His childhood was filled with hard work and determination and he continued to study and clear the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

Mundhe joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in the 2005 batch and was given the Maharashtra cadre. He has held various important administrative positions such as Municipal Commissioner of Nashik, Solapur and Nagpur as well as Collector in various districts. His strict implementation of rules, action against illegal constructions, financial discipline and transparency have made him popular among citizens.

Although he has been repeatedly transferred because of his uncompromising working style, Tukaram Mundhe is still interested in the public well-being and administrative reforms. During the COVID-19 pandemic he was involved in public health measures management in Nagpur.

Mundhe is a humble man who is dedicated to public service and the very best of not only the administrative work but also the personal work. He does not like publicity or to be out front of the game and he will let his work speak for itself. The ethical governance he has shown for UPSC aspirants and to young civil servants makes him a role model.

Tukaram Mundhe is today one of the most celebrated and well-known IAS officers in Maharashtra. From a farmer’s family to a senior bureaucrat, he has come a long way and he is committed to society.
