A 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly creating and circulating AI-generated reels and posters that depicted police officers sexually harassing a woman journalist during protests against the Election Commission of India (ECI) in central Delhi.

Police said the fabrications included AI-generated images of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vivek Bhagat, who had been accused by a woman of sexually harassment during a protest near central Delhi on Saturday.

Social Media Posts Flagged By Police

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi district) Manjeet Sheoran said the district’s social media monitoring cell detected AI-generated reels and posters being circulated on Instagram and Facebook.

The content was allegedly presented as “genuine CCTV footage” from the protest spot. One of the fabricated posters reportedly showed a police officer groping a woman during the demonstration, designed to look like a CCTV screenshot.

Accused Ran Instagram News Channel

According to police, the accused, identified as Nadeem Ahmad from Palwal, Haryana, launched an Instagram channel called “news_aaina0776” in April-May this year, prior to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests at Jantar Mantar.

Police said Ahmad, a Class 10 dropout, was running the channel, which has more than 24,000 followers.

Police Say Purpose Was To Create Chaos

Sheoran said Ahmad’s interrogation indicated that the alleged motive behind creating and circulating the fabrications was to damage the reputation of the Delhi Police and create unrest during the protests.

Police alleged that the content could have been designed to incite protesters to attack police personnel.

Probe Underway Into Alleged Conspiracy

Ahmad was arrested on October 5. According to the police, initial questioning suggested that he created the fabrications on October 3 and circulated them the following day.

Investigators are now questioning Ahmad to find out the source of funding behind the alleged activity and any possible associates.

Police are also looking into whether the content was created as part of a wider, pre-planned effort to incite protesters and create violence during the protests.Ahmad was arrested on October 5.
