New Delhi (India) August 8: During the large protests against suspected leakages of question papers in recruitment tests, the Jharkhand government met different groups on Saturday, but the deadlock continued since students who were demonstrating were adamant that their protest would last until their demands were accepted.

Protests Near Jharkhand CM’s Residence

Some members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) collided with police when they tried to breach the barricades to get near the Jharkhand CM's home. Following this, 8-10 of the protesters were arrested by officials.

The clash occurred as the ABVP-Jharkhand tried to move towards the CM's home to support the students who are demonstrating against anomalies during competitive examinations. The procession started from Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University.

"ABVP members scuffled with the police and tried to break through barricades near the chief minister's residence. Eight to ten members have been detained and will be taken to Lalpur police station," a police officer said.

Hussain Accuses Opposition Of Double Standards

On Saturday, the Opposition was accused by BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain of "double standards" as they are quiet about students' protests in Jharkhand while loud in case of similar problems in Delhi and UP. As he mentioned to ANI, the opposition's caring of students depends on which party is ruling in which state.

"The country wants to know this, and the people of Jharkhand want to know this. They are practising double standards. Those who were making grand statements regarding Jantar Mantar are maintaining silence on the Jharkhand matter," he said.

He added, "The members of the INDI Alliance are completely ignoring the ongoing student protests. They make loud statements in Delhi, and Rahul Gandhi even wants to hold a 'Chhatron ki Goonj' (Voice of Students) event in Prayagraj, yet why do they remain silent on the issue of Jharkhand?"

Students Seek CBI Probe Into Recruitment Exam

The stir started after students doubted the genuineness of the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Civil Services Preliminary Examination, citing irregularities, as it failed to satisfy students after announcement of the results on July 5. Thousands of students who have been demonstrating since July 25 at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi have requested the Jharkhand government to cancel this test, initiate a thorough and proper investigation and bring about some reforms in recruitment bodies in the state.

Some significant demands are: investigation by CBI or a team constituted of retired High Court judges from out of state, amendments in both JPSC and JSSC and transparency in upcoming recruitment examination procedures owing to allegations of leaks in recruitment tests.
