Ranbir Kapoor and Yash's Ramayana: Part One is poised for a blockbuster opening with more than 1.3 lakh advance tickets sold. However, the ambitious mythological epic is finding it difficult to keep up with the record-breaking pre-release sales of Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana opened advance bookings on Dussehra (October 20), creating a long tail for the November 5 release. While the film's ticket sales are on a steady incline, it faces a stiff competition from the Dhurandhar sequel which boasts of an incredibly high pre-release valuation.
Ramayana vs Dhurandhar 2: Booking Numbers Compared
As per the latest reports, Ramayana: Part One has sold around 1.36 lakh tickets in four days (including around 87,000 tickets from major cinema chains). With 11 days left for the release, the film has registered ₹7.75 crore in advance bookings.
In comparison, Dhurandhar: The Revenge (Aditya Dhar's film) sold nearly 1.4 lakh tickets for its paid previews in 24 hours after the bookings opened on March 7. Nearly 90,000 of these tickets were sold on the major cinema chains.
The numbers do not lie - Dhurandhar 2 managed to sell as much as Ramayana in just one day.
The revenge sequel reportedly earned ₹40 crore from the paid previews and ₹52 crore in net advance bookings for the day of the release. Its worldwide pre-sales crossed ₹200 crore before the opening day, creating an insane anticipation for the film.
Regional Bookings Could Boost Ramayana
Even as it trails behind Dhurandhar 2's pre-release sales, Ramayana has plenty of scope to increase its numbers. As per the latest reports, the Hindi version of the film is currently available on nearly 1,000 screens. It is registering a staggering 15-20% occupancy in some of the key cities.
While the Kannada version bookings are slow, the Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam versions are yet to open. These could potentially contribute to a huge number of bookings on the day of the release.
