A video of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke questioning Delhi Police personnel has gone viral on social media ahead of his party's proposed 'Lehra Do Tiranga' rally in Connaught Place. The video shows Dipke looking at a notice of prohibitory orders issued to him before telling the cops, “Humein baksh dijiye, mahila suraksha pe dhyaan dijiye,” which means, "Spare us and focus on women's safety."
The exchange between the CJP founder and the police took place in the context of tightened security in parts of the national capital ahead of the planned demonstration on Friday. Dipke can be seen seated on a bright yellow sofa with a tiny Indian national flag draped over his shoulders reading the documents and questioning the police about the allegations.
“Kya aarop laga diya hai aapne mere upar?” he asks the cops, meaning, "What accusation have you levelled against me?"
Police Serve Notice to Dipke at His Temporary Residence
According to news agency ANI, Delhi Police personnel have reportedly visited the residence of Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) spokesperson Anish Gawande on Rani Jhansi Road, where Dipke is currently staying.
The cops informed the CJP founder about prohibitory orders imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and warned him against organising gatherings that violate the restrictions.
The development comes in the backdrop of heightened security arrangements around the CJP's proposed demonstration which is proposed to take off at 5 pm in Central Park in Connaught Place. The party had appealed to supporters and members of the public to converge at the venue waving the national flag.
Police Restrictions Ahead of 'Lehra Do Tiranga' Rally
Delhi Police have not sanctioned the proposed march because of restrictions on large gatherings in the Connaught Place and adjoining areas, and reportedly offered to facilitate a selected group of protesters at an alternate location to wave the national flag.
The planned rally is taking place in the backdrop of protests by the CJP against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Heavy Security Deployment Across New Delhi
More than 6,000 Delhi Police personnel and 220 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed across the New Delhi area to prevent potential law-and-order issues. Each CAPF company has approximately 100 personnel.
Meanwhile, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) announced that Central Park will remain closed to the public on Friday and Saturday due to administrative reasons.
The police notice and Dipke’s remark have added another layer to the dispute over the proposed rally, as the authorities are trying to enforce restrictions and the party is continuing its plans for a national-flag demonstration.
