A handwritten bomb threat message found in a washroom at Kolkata airport on Friday, October 23 triggered a security scare at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport but no explosives were found and flights were not disrupted.

Security forces searched the airport after finding the hand-written note on a piece of toilet tissue paper in the ladies’ washroom at around 8:55 AM. Authorities are yet to find any bombs and flights were proceeding normally.

The CISF, police, and bomb disposal squads were called in after the threat was reported and they launched a search of the airport.

Cleaning Staff Find Threatening Note

It was reported that the note was discovered by cleaning staff and written in Bengali and warned that a bomb had been placed near the boarding gate.

It was unclear which gate was targeted as some sources said it was near gate 23 while others said it was gate 30. Some even said that the message contained a threat to the CISF.

Airport authorities immediately contacted security agencies including the CISF, police, and bomb disposal squad after the discovery and they started searching the area for any suspicious objects.

Bomb Squad Detects No Explosives

Security forces conducted a search and surveillance operation at the airport after the threat was reported. They used metal detectors and sniffing dogs to locate any hidden explosives but no bombs or suspicious objects were found.

Despite the security scare, flights were not disrupted and no reports of cancellations or delays were received. Authorities have since been on high alert following the incident.

CCTV Footage Being Analyzed

Authorities are currently analyzing CCTV footage of the airport to identify the person who placed the note in the washroom. The cleaning staff who found the note has also been questioned.

Authorities believe the note was a hoax but the investigation is ongoing to reveal the real mastermind behind the threat. The scare comes after bomb threats against planes, airports, and other public institutions have been on the rise.

Schools in Delhi also received bomb threat calls on Friday. Authorities are still investigating if the threat was a prank or a serious security concern meant to cause panic at the airport. So far, no explosives have been found and flights are not disrupted.
