New Delhi (India) June 10: Special pujas and aartis were performed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in celebration of Narendra Modi completing his longest tenure in office as an elected prime minister and beating former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's term.
Leaders and Union Ministers offered their prayers on Wednesday at various places, describing the day as a national occasion of thankfulness and reflection of 12 years of NDA government.
Modi's Record Marks Major Achievement
Narendra Modi beat Nehru's 4,399 days of continuous service as elected PM after 26 May 2014. He was elected again after winning his second consecutive term in 2019, and again in 2024-the longest uninterrupted tenure of an elected Prime Minister of India.
The longevity in office speaks volumes of his ever-growing political clout and the success of his party in the recent elections over the past decade which have witnessed it expand its footprint across a major chunk of the country and continue to remain the dominant political force.
BJP Expands Presence Across India
The celebrations for becoming the longest continuously serving elected PM is being held as the BJP-led NDA has completed 12 years in power and is the dominant force across the country ruling more than 20 states and UTs either on its own or in coalition and parties leaders attribute this expansion to welfarism, infrastructure development, organisational robustness and of course the personal appeal of Modi.
Global Leaders Extend Congratulations
From across the world, leaders lauded the achievement and called Modi a leader who has changed the country, accompanied by his economic prowess and global power.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also called Modi's achievement "a powerful testament" of his decades of service and leadership in public office.
"Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister. This achievement is a powerful testament to his decades of dedicated public service and leadership," Gor said.
Kenya's President Congratulate Modi
Kenyan President William Ruto also described this moment as a testament of trust in Modi from people of India, three times in a row.
"Your journey from humble beginnings to this position is a testament to dedication, perseverance and public service. Kenya values its strong and enduring partnership with India and looks forward to deepening cooperation for the mutual benefit of our peoples," Ruto said.
