A significant legal news in the Patna coaching centre firing case came as the court has stayed the arrest of Faisal Khan, popular educator widely known as Khan Sir. The decision follows an FIR that was lodged against him following a purported firing which took place outside his coaching institute in Bihar’s capital on June 2.
Court Grants Interim Protection
Khan Sir had been granted interim protection by the Patna district court, at the invitation of his legal representatives after hearing his anticipatory bail plea. This means that no arrest can be made until the next hearing. His lawyer, Arvind Kumar Mavvar, said the court has asked to refer the case diary and relevant records. The next hearing is on the 10th of the month, to discuss more arguments. The investigation has been preserved during the meantime, as the educator has not yet been arrested. The lawyer added that Khan Sir continues to cooperate with the investigation and can show himself at the authorities’ station if necessary.
FIR and Allegations in the Case
The case was about an alleged incident on June 2 when shots were reportedly fired outside the Khan Global Studies Institute at the Musallahpur Haat area of Patna. This incident escalated after a group of people allegedly vandalised the coaching centre and broke and damaged property. Police later detained two security guards who were accused of firing the bullets during the incident. A FIR was subsequently registered for three members, including Khan Sir, under the applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Arms Act.
Lawyer Claims Conspiracy
Khan Sir’s lawyer has fiercely denied the allegations and said the FIR appears to be part of a conspiracy to insult the educator. He had claimed that the case was filed in retaliation following a complaint raised against another coaching centre. The defence claimed there is no direct evidence linking Khan Sir to the firing. The lawyer also said video footage showing guards firing in the air, supposedly for security reasons, was available and no injuries were reported. The educator’s name was added to the FIR without justification, he added, and is being abused in the case.
Rival Coaching Centre Angle
The incident has also stirred rifts between rival coaching institutes in Patna. A lot of students gathered outside the institute after their firing and vandalism incident, creating a tense situation in the area. A rival coaching institute sat down after the incident with a media conference claiming that the incident had been staged. Conversely, Khan Sir had said in earlier comments that members of a competing institute may be involved, but that only a police investigation could corroborate the truth.
Police Investigation Continues
Police at Patna have said that the police investigation is continuing. The case will be investigated transparently and fact checked before the conclusion is drawn, officials maintained. Security has been tightened in the area to prevent further unrest.
Khan Sir has been granted interim relief from the court by staying his arrest at the moment. The case is still being investigated, and the next hearing will provide more clarity.
