A big dust storm hit Delhi on Tuesday afternoon. It brought winds, low visibility and sudden weather changes. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert for Delhi. They warned people to stay indoors and be careful.

Strong Winds Hit Delhi

The IMD said wind speeds reached 92 kmph in Palam, Dwarka and nearby areas around 2:30 PM. Many parts of the city had dust storms and then cloudy skies.

Earlier the weather department had put Delhi under an alert.. They upgraded it to a red alert as the weather got worse.

Rain and Thunderstorms Expected

The IMD said there will be light to rain in most parts of Delhi. There will also be thunderstorms, lightning and strong gusty winds.

Wind speeds of 60–70 kmph with gusts up to 80 kmph are expected in parts of the city in the evening.

The weather warning will be in effect until 5 PM.

NCR Areas on Alert

The weather department said there will be dust storms, thunderstorms and light rain in nearby NCR areas.

The affected areas include:

  • Barwala
  • Jind
  • Adampur
  • Hisar
  • Gohana
  • Hansi
  • Siwani
  • Meham
  • Sonipat
  • Tosham
  • Rohtak
  • Kharkhoda
  • Bhiwani
  • Charkhi Dadri
  • Mattanhail

Residents are advised to avoid travel. They should stay away, from trees and electric poles during winds. They should also follow official weather updates until the weather gets better.
