New Delhi (India) February 14:February 14 marks Black Day in India, commemorating the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, one of the deadliest strikes on Indian security forces. On February 14, 2019, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive, crashing his vehicle into a bus transporting CRPF personnel, killing 40 jawans.
Days later, India also acted with a retaliatory strike that became known as the Balakot airstrike.
Modi's Emotional X Post Honors CRPF Personnel
On Saturday February 14, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his respects to the CRPF personnel who died in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama on this day in 2019.
Modi said, "Remembering the brave heroes who laid down their lives in Pulwama on this day in 2019. Their devotion, resolve and service to the nation remain forever etched in our collective consciousness. Every Indian draws strength from their enduring courage" on social media platform X.
VP Radhakrishnan: Sacrifice Etched in Nation's Heart
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan also offered condolences to the forces that died in the attack. Radhakrishnan made it clear that the absolute sacrifice made by the CRPF personnel will always be recorded in the nation’s memory.
"I pay homage to the brave personnel who laid down their lives in the Pulwama terror attack. Their supreme sacrifice will forever remain etched in the nation's memory and continues to inspire us to build a strong and secure India," he said.
Kharge's Tribute: Martyrs' Courage Eternal
Indian National Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge also paid his tributes.
He said, "We pay our deepest homage to the brave martyrs of Bharat Mata, who laid down their lives in Pulwama. Their indomitable courage and unflinching devotion to the nation will forever be etched in our collective memory. Their supreme sacrifice remains eternal. We shall never forget.”
Shah Slams Terrorism as Humanity's Foe
Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the CRPF personnel who died battling against terrorism in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack and said terrorism constitutes the biggest enemy of humanity and that India is intent on destroying it completely.
Shah said, “The country will always remain indebted to the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of our security forces and security agencies that confront terrorism" on X.
LG Sinha Hails Martyrs' Bravery
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha paid respects to personnel killed in a terror attack on their convoy in Pulwama district.
“Humble tributes to the valiant martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during the dastardly terrorist attack in Pulwama in 2019. Their unwavering commitment, unparalleled bravery and selfless service to the motherland will forever inspire every citizen,” he said in a post on X.
