New Delhi (India) February 8:A Haryana Police Inspector was fatally injured and 13 people injured after a “top spin” swing collapsed at Surajkund Crafts Mela in Faridabad on Saturday. A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against the vendor in this regard.
CM Nayab Saini Offers Condolences
Nayab Saini, Haryana Chief Minister, offered condolences to the inspector's family and directed authorities to render proper treatment for the injured. He said the government would support affected families.
"I am deeply saddened by the accident that occurred during the Surajkund Mela organised in Faridabad. I express my heartfelt condolences to the family of the person who lost their life in this incident. At the same time, necessary directions have been issued to the concerned authorities for the appropriate and immediate treatment of the injured individuals," he posted on X.
What Happened at 6:15 PM?
The Tsunami swing video showed from Surajkund Fair in Faridabad, a few minutes before it broke mid-air and fell to the ground on Saturday evening. At about 6:15 pm around 15 people were on the swing when it tilted and collapsed. A police inspector on-duty died in the incident and 13 others were injured.
The video is about one minute long, showing the ride moving in circles as people below snap pictures and record. As the swing continues to rotate, one side of the structure suddenly breaks, and the frame depicts the ride dropping as nearby people flee to safety in panic.
Jagdish Prasad's Fatal Rescue Attempt
The area In-charge Inspector Jagdish Prasad had sustained fatal injuries when the other end of the swing collapsed on him during the rescue. Deputy Commissioner Faridabad Ayush Sinha stated to the mediapersons that nine of the injured were taken to a private hospital and four were admitted at the Civil Hospital.
Inspector Jagdish, who is at Palwal, was in charge of the area at the festival ground when the incident occurred, and received head injuries while attempting to rescue the revellers, Mr. Sinha said, noting the police officer was declared dead at the hospital. He said that a committee conducted a daily inspection of the swings installed at the mela ground.
DGP Singhal Visits Hospital, Ensures Top Treatment
The DGP described the incident as regrettable, and said the administration would extend all support to the injured. He also ordered doctors and hospital administration to make sure that all necessary resources are available so that treatment could be initiated swiftly and effectively.
DGP Singhal visited the hospital to meet the injured people wounded in the incident, and held detailed discussions with doctors about their treatment progress. The statement said that the victims were assured the state government and police department are committed to providing the best medical care possible and directed officials to ensure there is no negligence in their treatment.
