New Delhi (India) March 22:During Eid prayers, Bilal Arif Salafi, a commander of the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, was shot and killed in the Muridke area of Punjab, Pakistan . The attack reportedly occurred at the group’s headquarters, known as Markaz Taiba, where a crowd had gathered to celebrate the holiday. 

Shooting and Stabbing Details

Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos, with Salafi being shot by unknown assailants while a woman also stabbed him multiple times. A disturbing video from the scene shows Salafi lying on the ground, surrounded by people attempting to help him amidst the panic. Despite the efforts of fellow Lashkar operatives who rushed him to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries before reaching medical care. The aftermath of the attack was marked by confusion, with many worshippers present for Eid prayers. 

Attackers Fled and Rivalry Rumors

Details surrounding the attack are still unclear, as the suspected attackers managed to escape, leaving investigators to ponder the motives behind this violent act. Speculation has emerged regarding possible internal rivalries within Lashkar-e-Taiba or the involvement of external forces, but no official confirmations have been made. Pakistani security agencies have yet to provide detailed statements or identify any suspects.

Salafi was a prominent figure within Lashkar-e-Taiba, having been affiliated with the group since 2005. He was known for his role in recruiting and training members, as well as promoting the organization’s ideology, particularly its agenda surrounding the 'Kashmir Jihad.' Living in Taiba Colony, Muridke, he was an influential leader among senior commanders.
