New Delhi (India) April 23:The chilling details emerging from the gruesome rape and murder of 22-year-old daughter of an IRS officer in south Delhi's Kailash Hills paint a horrifying picture, stretching across two states, highlighting security lapses and pointing towards a suspect fuelled by debt and addiction.
In just under 12 hours, the accused Rahul Meena not only raped a woman in Alwar in Rajasthan, but then travelled to Delhi where he raped and murdered a 22-year-old. The accused was apprehended late Wednesday night.
Accused Commits First Assault in Alwar
On Tuesday night, the accused Rahul Meena entered the house of his neighbour in Alwar, pushed, beat her before raping her. According to police, the accused also tried to cover the woman's mouth and threw her to the ground before proceeding to commit the rape.
While leaving, he threatened the woman asking her to keep mum or face dire consequences. He also warned that if she reported the incident, he would kill her along with her husband and children. An FIR has been registered by the Alwar police.
UPSC Aspirant Attacked And Strangled to Death
The next morning the accused reached Delhi and entered a society complex in south-east Delhi's Kailash Hills, from where he proceeded to his former employer's flat and raped his daughter. He left the house at around 7:30 AM. When the victim's parents returned from the gym, they found her lying dead.
According to the police, he could manage to sneak inside the flat without much difficulty as he knew about the internal layout of the house and location of the spare keys. Once inside, he straightaway went to the victim's study room. She was reportedly studying for the UPSC examinations when he entered the room, hit her with a lamp and a heavy object, causing her to bleed heavily. After she continued to resist, he strangled her to the point of unconsciousness, before raping her in her unconscious state.
CCTV, Auto Driver Help Arrest Accused
The Delhi police constituted several teams to trace the accused. Initially, CCTV footage installed at the society gate and at the building where the victim resided gave the police clues of his movement and the direction in which he had fled. A further scrutiny of the footage helped police to establish the type of vehicle he boarded an auto-rickshaw-following which its driver was traced, who said he dropped the accused at a hotel, from where he was finally arrested. The accused Rahul has been sent to four-day police custody and would be interrogated further and taken to the spots of crime for reconstruction, police said.
