New Delhi (India) April 11:For a moment at the Prerna Sthal in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi shared a glimpse of camaraderie as they visited to pay their respects to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule on his 200th birth anniversary.
The short, lighthearted interaction between the PM and Leader of Opposition was captured in a video which has gone viral. In the video, the duo can be seen casually interacting while Union ministers JP Nadda, Arjun Ram Meghwal and former Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh look on.

As soon as the Prime Minister alighted from his vehicle, he was greeted by everyone including Rahul Gandhi. While walking up to exchange pleasantries with everyone in line, he turned back towards the leader of the opposition and walked over to him, which later turned into an interaction.
This came as a warm contrast to the animosity that is generally perceived between them, owing to the sharp attacks they usually make at each other.
PM praises Phule’s fight for equality
Speaking on Phule's birth anniversary, the Prime Minister paid a tribute to the social reformer stating that his life was dedicated to the service of equality, justice and education. He further wrote that the leader was a pioneer who had worked for the rights of women and the downtrodden.
He said, "On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, paying tributes to a visionary social reformer who dedicated his life to the ideals of equality, justice and education. He was also a pioneer in championing the rights of women and the marginalized. This year, we mark the start of his 200th birth anniversary celebrations. May his thoughts continue to guide everyone in the pursuit of societal progress.”
Rahul hails Phule’s ideals of social justice
Sharing a social media post, Gandhi also paid his respect to Phule. He stated that the ideologies and principles of Phule would forever motivate them towards social justice.
“On the birth anniversary of the great social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, I offer my humble salutations to him. He dedicated his entire life to protecting the rights and entitlements of the marginalised. His struggle against discrimination and inequality showed the nation the path to equality and justice,” Gandhi said.
