A security guard has been arrested in south Mumbai after he allegedly sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl inside a washroom.

The incident happened on Sunday in the Pydhonie area. Police said the girl is currently getting treatment at a hospital. A complaint was filed and the accused was arrested the same day.

What happened at the location

As per police, the girl had gone to use the restroom in a building where the accused worked as a security guard. The family raised an alarm after noticing something was wrong. Local people quickly gathered and informed police. The accused was caught from the spot and taken to the police station for questioning.

Community anger and safety concerns
Parents and residents in Pydhonie said they feel unsafe after the incident. Many said buildings must check background of guards and install CCTV in common areas. Social workers who reached the spot also asked for better safety rules for children in public and office spaces. Police have started checking other buildings in the area as a precaution.

Protest Outside Police Station

News of the assault angered local residents. Hundreds of people gathered outside the Pydhonie police station on Sunday. They demanded strict and fast punishment for the accused.

Some protesters also stopped Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar when he visited the station. They raised slogans asking for strong action. For a short time, protesters blocked the road outside the station. Police later cleared the area.

Heavy police security has been placed in Pydhonie to avoid any more tension.

NCP Demands Fast Justice

NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar called the case "outrageous and extremely serious" in a post on X. He said this happened soon after the Nasrapur case in Pune, where a 3-year-old girl was raped and murdered.

Pawar said delay in justice makes the law weak. He asked the government to speed up trials in such cases. He also urged the state to quickly apply the Shakti Act, which has strict rules for crimes against women and children.

Pawar added that he raised this demand in the last assembly session. He also prayed for the girl’s quick recovery.

In the Nasrapur case, a 65-year-old man was given a triple death sentence within 60 days, CM Devendra Fadnavis had said last month.

Police are investigating the Pydhonie case further.
