Sonam Wangchuk Released From NSA Detention

The Centre has further declared a cessation of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk's detention months after the violent Leh protests in September. 

Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) and lodged in Jodhpur jail, Rajasthan. Authorities had held him ‘to maintain public order’ following unrest in Leh.

Government Statement

Official from government said:

“The Government is committed to pursuing the goal of preserving peace, stability, and mutual trust in Ladakh. This encourages a constructive conversation with all of its constituents. On the basis of this, the Government takes steps to withdraw the detention of Shri Sonam Wangchuk with immediate effect under the National Security Act."
