New Delhi (India) April 12:Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces in Uganda and the son of President Yoweri Museveni, has made some eyebrow-raising requests from Turkey. He is seeking $1 billion, along with a rather unconventional demand for “the most beautiful woman in the country” to become his wife.

Muhoozi's $1B Security Dividend Demand

Kainerugaba believes that Uganda’s contributions to regional security have gone unrecognized, and he feels it’s time for financial compensation for the efforts the country has made.
In a series of posts on X, he expressed his frustration, claiming that Turkey has been reaping the benefits of significant business and infrastructure projects in Somalia, like ports and airports in the capital, Mogadishu.

While Uganda has been shouldering a heavy security burden by fighting militants from Al-Qaeda’s affiliate, Al-Shabab, for nearly two decades through African Union missions. He referred to the $1 billion he is asking for as a "security dividend" and added his personal request for marriage on top of that.
"For Turkey, it's a really simple deal... Either they pay us, or I close their embassy here. They can reciprocate and shut our embassy in Turkey as well. No problem," he said on social media platform X.

Threatens to Shut Turkish Embassy in 30 Days

Kainerugaba has given Turkey 30 days to meet his demands, warning that if they are not fulfilled, he would sever diplomatic ties and close the Turkish embassy in Kampala. He even threatened to ban Turkish Airlines from flying in Uganda’s airspace. Amidst his grievances toward Turkey, he also took the opportunity to express his support for Israel .
He said, "I am ready to deploy 100,000 Ugandan soldiers to Israel, under my command, to protect the Holy Land — the land of Jesus Christ our God.”
As of now, there has been no public response from either Turkish or Somali officials regarding Kainerugaba’s latest statements. Ugandan officials have not clarified whether his comments reflect the official stance of the country or are simply his personal views.

Past Cow Proposal to Italy's Prime Minister

While Kainerugaba’s requests have sparked criticism, this is not the first time he has made headlines for his unusual demands. Back in October 2022, he controversially offered 100 of what he called the “most beautiful cows on Earth”—Ankole cows—in exchange for the hand of Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in marriage.
"If the Romans reject our cows, that means we must capture Rome. That would take us days to do," Kainerugaba said. At that time, his father, President Museveni, felt it necessary to apologize for his son’s comments.
