New Delhi (India) May 10: Faced with rising global volatility with the US-Iran war in the Middle East and high inflation across the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appealed to the citizens to save petrol and diesel and foreign reserves of India. The Prime Minister also assured that his government is doing all to safeguard India and its people.

PM Asks People to Save Petrol and Diesel

Addressing a large public gathering in Hyderabad, Modi highlighted that India lacks oil wells to a large extent, which also becomes a reason for saving of petrol and diesel by the citizens.

He said, "When the supply chain continues to be in crisis, no matter what measures we take, the difficulties only increase. Therefore, now we must fight unitedly, keeping the country and Mother India first. We must remember that patriotism is not just about dying for the country. Living for the country and fulfilling our duties to the country is also patriotism.”

Car-pooling and Work From Home Encouraged

The Prime Minister requested the citizens to try car-pooling and travel through metro trains where available and even promoted electric vehicles (EV). Sending the couriers should be done through the rail networks, he requested.

"During COVID-19 pandemic, facilities like work from home, online meetings, video conferencing were used. Today, we should start using them again. Work from home, online meetings, video conferencing must be prioritised again," Modi said.

Citizens Urged to Avoid Foreign Vacations

The PM urged the contry's people to shun overseas holidays, abroad wedding parties, among others in order to save foreign exchange. 

“The growing culture of weddings abroad, travelling abroad and vacationing abroad is becoming prevalent among the middle class. We must decide that during this time of crisis, we should postpone travelling abroad for at least a year,” he said.

PM Advises Against Buying Gold Items

Modi asked to forego the luxury of buying non-essential gold products for a year, whereas in case of families, to avoid usage of edible oils which also aids both nation as well as the citizen in terms of their health and money.

The citizen should instead try to support made-in-India and local products from daily items such as footwear, bags and other accessories to locally manufactured and supported business establishments.
