MNS chief Raj Thackeray has issued a strong warning ahead of the big protest in Mumbai on Sunday, July 26.
He said anyone who tries to create trouble during the peaceful march “will be thrashed.”
What Did Raj Thackeray Say?
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Raj Thackeray said the central government is cracking down on peaceful student protests. He also reminded that BJP used to protest when it was in opposition and demand minister resignations.
“If any goons infiltrate the protest on 26th July, we will beat them up, just like we did in Delhi. So, such people should stay away from my protest,”
Raj Thackeray said, as per ANI.He added, “The government should have started talks. Today they are scared. Even the Prime Minister is scared, that’s why he’s tweeting.”
Raj also appealed to police not to provoke violence.
Why Is The Protest Happening?
MNS and Shiv Sena UBT have announced a joint protest march in Mumbai.
They are supporting students at Jantar Mantar, Delhi who are demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak and exam issues.
Both Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray have backed Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijit Dipke, who is protesting in Delhi.
Uddhav even visited Jantar Mantar to meet the protesting students. Leaders like Sharad Pawar have also extended support.
Police Impose Strict Rules In Mumbai
Due to rising protests, Mumbai Police has issued prohibitory orders from July 23 to August 6.
Under these rules:
- Gathering of 5 or more people is banned
- Processions are not allowed
- Use of loudspeakers, musical bands and crackers in processions is banned
The order was issued by DCP Akbar Pathan under the Maharashtra Police Act.
