Kota a educational hub for students

Increasingly more coaching centers than colleges and universities these days is a dismal reflection on India’s education system and job market. Certain cities like Kota in Rajasthan are actually well-known for their coaching facilities, which are renowned for making sure their pupils do well on the numerous admission exams for professional programs. Students go to Kota for clearing NEET and JEE exams. Early in the 1990s, Kota saw the start of the "gold rush." The city gained recognition as "the new Kashi" of education following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's praise for it. Nine prominent institutes, including Physics Wallah, Resonance, Bansal, Aakash, Career Point, Motion Education, Allen Career Institute, and Unacademy, are currently enrolling up to 1.77 lakh students from all around India. With over 40,000 paid guest rooms and at least 4,000 student dormitories, the coaching institutes are the city's main source of income. There are numerous advertisements for test-prep centers and hostels all across the city. The walls of coaching centers and hostels are covered with enormous banners featuring images of NEET and JEE toppers. The coaching institutes host roadshows each year when pupils in garlanded jeeps are positioned.

More than Education now it has become a Business

The Kota educational paradigm has come under scrutiny in light of the recent occurrences. Former candidates often get the notion that coaching programs and instructors are only focused on helping students progress their careers or businesses. With this method, the students are reduced to simple props. Furthermore, it appears that Kota's coaching factories have an extremely low student-teacher ratio. Students who experience mental exhaustion and low self-esteem are also affected by a number of other issues.

Six suicides this year

There have already been six suicide deaths this year, including the death of a JEE candidate in Kota, Rajasthan, on Friday. The pupil was identified as Bhagalpur district native Abhishek Kumar from Bihar. Aspiring JEE, Abhishek, ingested a toxic substance at his rented room in the city’s Vigyan Nagar neighbourhood. In response to the event, the police stated that they had found a suicide note and a bottle containing the deadly material in Kumar’s chamber.

Abhishek Kumar’s suicide note and a rat poison

Sorry papa, I cannot do JEE…,” the suicide note read, according to the police. Additionally, the police stated that Kumar failed both of the exams that were due to take place at his coaching on January 29 and February 19, respectively. According to authorities, the student’s body would be given to his family after a post-mortem examination. Notably, Kota has seen a startling increase in student suicide cases in recent months, which has the local authorities concerned.

Notably, Kota has seen a startling increase in student suicide cases in recent months, which has the local authorities concerned. A student from Uttar Pradesh who was receiving private tutoring in Kota in order to prepare for the NEET committed suicide earlier on January 23. In 2023, Kota, which is well-known for its engineering and medical entrance exam tutoring centers, experienced 29 student suicides. Authorities are working quickly to address the mental health problems that kids at coaching centre’s demanding academic environments are facing.
