Arvind Kejriwal has been Arrested; he is the Fourth well-Known person to be Detained in a Delhi excise Policy Case.

In connection with the Delhi liquor policy money laundering investigation, the Enforcement Directorate detained Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 21.

Prior to this, three prominent figures had been taken into custody: BRS MP K Kavitha, two AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh.

Satyendar Jain of the AAP is among the 14 people who have been detained in connection with the case thus far.

Concerned by the huge military presence outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's official residence, Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal hinted on Thursday that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) may be getting ready to detain the AAP leader.
"The scale of force being deployed at the CM's residence shows that the ED has come to arrest the Chief Minister," Goyal informed the press.

"It may be a small setback, but the party will emerge stronger out of this episode," Goyal stated.
The Speaker further disclosed that, in the event of an arrest, all MLAs have resolved unanimously that Kejriwal will not step down as chief minister.

"CM Kejriwal would not step down upon his arrest, as decided by the party and every MLA. The jail will be the seat of governance. Goyal mentioned.

On Thursday night, just after the high court denied Kejriwal's request for immunity from coercive action in a money laundering case involving the now-canceled excise scheme, an ED team arrived at his home.

Following searches at his official house and over two hours of questioning the AAP leader in relation to the money laundering investigation related to the excise policy case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) detained Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday. The arrest transpired just hours after the Delhi High Court turned down his request for temporary immunity from coercive measures taken against Arvind Kejriwal in the investigation into money laundering.

Rapid Action Force (RAF) men arrived outside Kejriwal's residence to form the first layer of the security cordon. Several iron barricades formed the second line of protection.
As party members sang chants in favor of the chief minister, prominent AAP figures, including Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj, also made their way to Kejriwal's home.
The ED appears to have raided the chief minister's (Arvind Kejriwal) home. The CM house does not allow anyone inside. They seem ready and willing to take the CM into custody. Delhi minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj declared, "We won't stay silent. The people of Delhi are watching."

Shortly after Kejriwal's arrest, Atishi declared, "It is a political conspiracy and not linked to any case or investigation." ED could have waited for the court's decision if they had desired to conduct an investigation. We have submitted an application to the Supreme Court, asking for an expedited hearing this evening. I will not step down, Arvind Kejriwal. He is and will continue to be the chief minister of Delhi.

What specific case is Kejriwal facing questions about?

The complaint focuses on the Delhi government's abandoned excise strategy for 2021–2022. It alleges corruption and money laundering during its formulation and implementation. AAP leaders allegedly earned ₹100 crore in kickbacks under the excise scheme, according to the Enforcement Directorate. The charge sheets that the ED has submitted also contain several references to Kejriwal. The accused allegedly spoke with Kejriwal to draft the excise policy, according to the agency's allegations.
The court has already detained Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, the leaders of the AAP, in this matter.

Kejriwal disregarded eight summonses that the federal agency had sent out since November 2 of last year, claiming that they were "illegal and politically motivated.".

Political figures like Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and K. Kavitha (who was detained last week), among others, are said by the ED to have plotted a conspiracy regarding the Delhi excise policy. The new excise policy 2021–22 awarded nine zones in Delhi to a South Group consisting of businessmen Sarath Reddy, Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, and K Kavitha. The strategy introduced a profit margin of 12% for wholesalers and over 185% for retailers, a remarkably large profit margin. The ED has claimed that, as part of the plot, the wholesalers were to be paid 6% of the 12% margin back as a reward to the AAP officials.
