On Monday evening, the much-anticipated three-day visit by Union Home Minister Shah to Jammu and Kashmir began when he arrived in the winter capital amidst multiple layers of security.

As soon as he touched down at the Technical Airport Jammu at around 7:15 p.m., his tour began.

Significantly, this is Shah’s second trip to J&K this year and his third after Article 370 was repealed. On March 18 and 19, he travelled to the Union Territory earlier this year. Prior to it, from October 23 to October 26 of 2021, he paid a four-day visit to J&K.

The present VVIP tour, which includes a number of official engagements, is largely anticipated since the Home Minister is expected to make an important statement on the ST status of Paharis during his much anticipated twin public rallies in Rajouri and Baramulla.

At the airport, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta, and senior officers of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) welcomed HM Shah. They were joined by the Union Minister of State in the PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh, and senior MHA officers.

Members of the BJP Core Group including Dr. Nirmal Singh, Kavinder Gupta, MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, J&K BJP President Ravinder Raina, General Secretary (Organization) Ashok Koul, and others were present to greet the Home Minister.

Shah immediately departed the airport and travelled to the Raj Bhawan, where he scheduled meetings with various delegations.
