Khattar resigns
Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Manohar Lal Khattar tendered his resignation as chief minister of Haryana on Tuesday, citing divisions within the state’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) coalition. According to a spokesman for the Haryana government, ML Khattar has sent the governor of Haryana his resignation letter and cabinet.
BJP -JJP ALLIANCE
The JJP, led by deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala, and the BJP’s relationship deteriorated after they were unable to come to a consensus on seat sharing in the state for the Lok Sabha elections. In the 2019 elections, the BJP had taken all ten of the state’s Lok Sabha seats. Independent MLA Nayan Pal Rawat claimed that the alliance is at a break point but some independent MLAs will support ML Khattar government. The BJP asserted that it has enough seats in the state assembly 41 MLAs plus independents to surpass the halfway threshold of 45 seats.
Naib Singh might be new CM
ML Khattar might be replaced by state BJP chief Naib Singh Saini, BJP insiders in Chandigarh have revealed.
The coalition was at a breaking point, according to independent MLA Nayan Pal Rawat, but certain independent MLAs who back the ML Khattar government will make sure it survived, news agency ANI said. Dharampal Gonder, another independent MLA, claimed that the other independent MLAs were backing the administration headed by the BJP. Gopal Kanda, an MLA for the Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP), had earlier asserted that the BJP and JJP’s alliance was nearing its breaking point and that the BJP could win the state's ten Lok Sabha seats on its own. The BJP has 41 MLAs in the 90-member Haryana assembly. Gopal Kanda, an HLP MLA, and five independent MLAs also support the party.
Meetings
Meetings of the MLAs of the BJP and JJP (Jannayak Janata Party) have been called separately by their respective high leaderships. All of the BJP’s ministers would gather at Manohar Lal Khattar’s house beforehand. Leaders of the Central BJP, such as former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Union minister Arjun Munda, are in the state to supervise the modifications. Senior party leaders have not commented, so it is unclear what the changes will entail.
