The film’s exceptional performance has propelled it past Dangal’s collections in India. Despite facing scrutiny, Animal’s box office dominance persists, with the film now crossing the Rs 398 crore mark in domestic collections.
Animal Earns Rs 37 Crore on Day 9
Animal’s relentless box office run is particularly evident in its second weekend, where it raked in an impressive Rs 37 crore on its second Saturday, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. The film’s total domestic collection has now soared to Rs 398.53 crore. The Saturday figures reveal robust Hindi occupancy at 49.12 percent, with a significant turnout for night shows constituting 62.29 percent of Hindi screenings. Additionally, the film secured a 40.36 percent Telugu occupancy and a 33.25 percent Tamil occupancy.
Animal Crosses Rs 600 Crore Mark Worldwide
Animal’s success transcends national borders as it surpasses the Rs 600 crore mark in global collections. The film’s global acclaim has solidified its position in the top 10 list of all-time highest-grossing films worldwide, surpassing Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai.
Chasing Jawan’s Record: Animal Aims for the Top Spot in 2023
While Animal has conquered the box office, it still faces the formidable task of surpassing the collections of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, the highest-grossing Indian film of 2023 with Rs 464.8 crore in its first week. Despite trailing behind in its debut week compared to other major hits like Pathaan and Gadar 2, Animal has outpaced Dangal’s domestic collections of Rs 387.38 crore from 2016.
Rashmika Mandanna Facing Criticism and Anticipating Competition
Despite its financial success, Animal has been under the critical lens for its portrayal of toxic masculinity, excessive violence, and gore. Rashmika Mandanna, one of the film’s stars, defended her character and the film on social media, emphasizing the authenticity and depth of the characters. As Animal continues to dominate the box office, it braces for competition in the southern states with the release of Prabhas’ Salaar on the same date as Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki, scheduled for December 21.
