It asked all schools to follow the instruction with immediate effect. Government schools are included. Government aided schools are included. Private schools are also included. The rule applies until further orders. The move aims to reduce health risks for children during severe air pollution conditions.

Circular Covers All School Managing Bodies

The Directorate of Education circular is dated December 13. It applies to schools under DOE NDMC MCD and the Delhi Cantonment Board. Heads of Schools were directed to conduct classes in hybrid mode. This means physical classes along with online classes. Online mode should be used wherever possible. The choice of attending online classes will rest with students and parents. GRAP Stage IV Triggered After AQI Turns Severe

The Commission for Air Quality Management invoked GRAP Stage IV across Delhi on Saturday. Stage IV is applied when AQI crosses the severe level. On 13th evening AQI was recorded at 448. Data was shared by the Central Pollution Control Board. A day earlier the 24 hour average AQI was recorded. They stood at 349. That falls under very poor category. Pollution levels worsened due to low wind speed and winter conditions. Delhi has faced repeated smog episodes every winter. Authorities monitor AQI daily during this season.

Pollution History Forces Repeated School Changes

Winter months see sharp rise in smog levels. Vehicle emissions dust and weather conditions add pressure. Schools have often been asked to close or shift online in past years. Hybrid classes were used during severe pollution spells earlier also. Health experts warn children are more affected by poor air. Breathing problems and eye irritation are common. The government has often balanced education needs with health safety. The current order follows the same pattern used in earlier GRAP phases.
