Barron Trump, the son of Former US President and current Republican front runner for the 2024 Presidential Elections, has declined to serve as a delegate at this summer's Republican National Convention citing ‘prior commitments’ according to a statement by a senior Trump campaign adviser and the office of former First Lady Melania Trump.
The youngest son of the 45th President was asked to be the delegate for Florida. Other family members such as Donald Trump Jr, Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump have also been selected to be delegates at the RNC.
Barron Trump being selected to serve as the delegate for the Florida Republican Party was a surprise move as he has largely been kept out of the public eye during both the campaigns.
A statement by the office of Melania Trump said, “While Barron is honoured to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments.”
Barron Trump is the son of Donald Trump and Melania Trump. His half siblings Donald Trump Jr, Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump have also been selected as the delegates from Florida. The Republican National Convention is scheduled to be held from July 15 to 18.
While earlier reports indicated that Barron was interested in taking up a bigger role in politics, public reception to the news was lukewarm with people sceptical of whether he wants to build on the legacy of his father or simply join what is called by critics as his father’s circus.
In addition to the Trump siblings, Don Jr.'s fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle and Tiffany's husband Michael Boulos are among the GOP delegates with familial connections. Ivanka Trump, on the other hand, who is frequently in the news because of her celebrity status, had previously declared that she would not be involved in the campaign and that she would not take on any positions within it.
Barron Trump, who turned 18 in March, is set to graduate soon. He has been shielded from the public eye so as to maintain a sense of normalcy in his life as he finishes his public education.
