4 June 2023, Mumbai: Netflix India’s latest collaboration with renowned filmmaker Hansal Mehta has resulted in the gripping series “Scoop.” While the show has already begun to earn critical acclaim, it’s intriguing to note that this partnership almost came to fruition much earlier with Mehta’s sensational hit, “Scam: 1992.” However, as fate would have it, “Scam” found its home on SonyLIV, emerging as one of the biggest OTT success stories in recent times. In an interview, Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India, expressed the streaming platform’s desire to have had “Scam” on their platform, while acknowledging that every project has its own destiny. Now, with “Scoop,” Netflix and Mehta have created a series that reflects the current times and pushes the boundaries of storytelling .

According to Hansal Mehta, if it wasn’t for “Scam,” there would not be “Scoop.” He emphasised the importance of each story’s role in facilitating the next one, regardless of where it finds its home. Mehta believes that the progression and evolution of a storyteller’s work are vital. “Scam” played a catalytic role in the journey from “Scam” to “Scoop,” allowing Mehta to explore new narratives and push the boundaries of storytelling further.

Inspired by Jigna Vora’s biographical book, “Behind The Bars In Byculla: My Days in Prison,” “Scoop” is a thrilling series created by Hansal Mehta and Mrunmayee Lagoo, co-writer of the acclaimed film “Thappad.” The series revolves around Jagruti Pathak, portrayed by the talented Karishma Tanna, an ambitious crime journalist who unexpectedly becomes a murder suspect. As the plot unfolds, viewers are taken on a journey filled with suspense, ambition, and unexpected twists.

Monika Shergill, in her interview, highlighted how the collaboration between Netflix and Mehta for “Scoop” aligns with their commitment to pushing the boundaries of storytelling. Shergill emphasised that the new medium of streaming allows for the exploration of three-dimensional stories, creating immersive worlds that go beyond the traditional linear narratives commonly found in Indian cinema. “Scoop” represents a significant shift in storytelling, offering viewers a fresh and dynamic experience that breaks free from conventional storytelling structures.
