7 June 2023, Mumbai: Drew Barrymore, a well-known actress and talk-show host, is prepared to move past her troubled past and mend her relationship with her mother, Jaid Barrymore.
Barrymore discusses the difficulties she has encountered as a result of her mother’s dual roles as her manager and an important person in her life during her early fame as a child star in a frank interview with Vulture.
Barrymore concedes that she doesn’t have the same “luxury” as people whose parents have already passed away when reflecting on the influence her mother has had on her healing process.
“I’m impatient.” Barrymore said, “I don’t want to be at a place where I hope someone would pass away earlier than they’re supposed to so I can grow. “I truly want her to be joyful, successful, and healthy. However, I must continue to develop despite her presence on the planet.”
Barrymore clarifies that, despite how complicated her sentiments are for her mother, there is no malice behind her contradictory feelings. She admits that it was difficult to choose to express her feelings out loud and that it doesn’t make her happy.
The well-known talk show personality declares that she will always adore her mother and expresses her sincere concern for her wellbeing.
Drew Barrymore, who was born in 1975 to actresses Jaid and John Barrymore, had a difficult life. Barrymore sought separation from her parents during her difficult youth, which included drug-related misadventures with her mother, a required stay in rehab at the age of 13, and a failed suicide attempt. She has a very different bond with her mother than she does with her father, who died in 2004 after a struggle with multiple myeloma.
Barrymore said of her deceased father, “I just understood what an incompetent human being he was…That must be extremely difficult for my mother, I know. It’s as though he receives a free ticket while she endures all the misery.”
The 48-year-old, though, exhibits a wish to make amends with her mother. Had a text message conversation with journalist E. Alex Jung from the Vulture.
“She declared her love for me and her pride in me. Whatever your age or the scope of your purpose, I don’t care. You go back to being young when your mother tells you she loves you. The best time I’ve ever heard her say that she loves me is because of my honesty and my truth,” the message read.
Barrymore offers her forgiveness to her mother and father as she wraps up the interview. She admits that she hasn’t yet forgiven herself, but she says she’s ready and wants to.
“I pardon my mother. I pardon my father. I’ve never been able to forgive myself, but I’m willing to now,” she said.
By letting go of the past and adopting a road of growth, understanding, and reconciliation, Barrymore hopes to start a new chapter in her relationship with her mother through her journey of healing and self-forgiveness.
