22nd March, Mumbai: As he prepares for the release of his highly anticipated movie “Bheed,” which is directed by Anubhav Sinha, Rajkummar Rao has responded to the removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech from the film’s trailer during its promotion.

If you’re not familiar with it, the trailer was taken off of YouTube due to criticism over its unfavourable portrayal of the COVID-19 lockdown. The updated version of the trailer has apparently eliminated any mention of the Partition of 1947 and the Prime Minister’s address which announced the nationwide lockdown in March of 2020.

In a media event held in Mumbai, Rajkummar was inquired about the edited version of the trailer being released again. According to PTI, Rajkummar responded by saying that it is solely the makers’ responsibility and a creative decision, which he has no control over. He stated that only Anubhav sir can provide an answer, and the journalists will have an opportunity to meet him soon

The initial teaser of Bheed sparked a significant commotion on social media due to the perception that the film’s message was overly sensational. The movie’s portrayal of the migrant worker crisis during the 2020 pandemic was seen by some as being equivalent to the Partition in 1947.

On the other hand, the trailer of the movie was well-received as it sensitively depicted the difficulties faced by ordinary people during the unprecedented crisis while also delivering a powerful message.

Shortly after the movie trailer was released, it was made private on YouTube. However, it was later re-uploaded on the platform with a revised version that removed a sequence featuring a voiceover of PM Modi’s lockdown announcement.
