Ferry Sinks Near Elephanta Islands: 1 Dead, 3 Missing, 55 Rescued

On Wednesday, a ferry boat that was transporting people from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Caves overturned off the Elephanta Islands. Three people are missing and one person has died.
55 persons have reportedly been transported to Navi Mumbai. St. George's Hospital and GT Hospital in the city are on notice. Located off the coast of Mumbai, the island is home to the well-known Gharpuri caves, a popular tourist site.

The navy coordinated rescue operations with the coast guard and marine police. There are eleven Navy vessels, three Marine Police vessels, and one Coast Guard vessel nearby. A representative for the Indian Navy stated that four more helicopters are conducting search and rescue operations.
In the state assembly, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis stated: "Preliminary reports indicate that 20 of the 35 individuals on the boat have been rescued. The rescue effort is in progress, and about seven persons are still unaccounted for.
