Final Bihar Voter List Released After SIR: 47 Lakh Names Removed, 7.42 Crore Eligible Electors Confirmed
The Election Commission published the final voter list in Bihar following Special Intensive Revision (SIR) on Tuesday. The updated list is now accessible on the poll panel's official website.
New Delhi (India) September 30: The Election Commission of India (EC) released the final voter records for Bihar on Tuesday. These lists remove 47 lakh names that were on them before the start of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) three months ago.
EC Publishes Updated Electoral Roll Online
The Bihar Chief Electoral Officer posted this update on the state's Facebook page. He also tagged the Election Commission of India. Social media posts claim that the final electoral roll was released on September 30, 2025. The voters can use the official Election Commission website to view their names.
The post states, “In the light of Special Intensive Revision, the final electoral roll has been published on 30.09. 2025. People can look up their names by clicking on the link voters.eci.gov.in."
According to the Bihar Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), all District Election Officers will receive hard copies of the roll.
Mass Deletions and Additions After Revision
After the State Intensive Revision (SIR), almost 47 lakh ineligible voters were deleted from the electoral lists. There were 7.89 crore electors on the voter registry as of June 24. The draft list released on August 1 included 7.24 crore voters after 65 lakh ineligible applicants were eliminated. This is a result of the amendment.
Another 3.66 lakh voters who were ineligible were also eliminated, and 21.53 lakh eligible voters were added. This increased the final list's total eligible voter count to 7.42 crore.
Political Controversy
The release represents a significant milestone before the poll schedule announcement. It is anticipated to occur between October 6 and 7. The SIR exercise has been at the center of political and legal discussion since it was carried out in Bihar 22 years after it was last performed.
The opposition charged that the Election Commission had manipulated the voter list. This is in order to benefit the BJP. It has caused a great controversy.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other BJP leaders have defended the SIR procedure. They defend it as a necessary step to eliminate the voter lists of "infiltrators," or those the opposition INDIA alliance allegedly attempted to protect and give voting rights to.
Legal Challenges
Several applications to stop the process were submitted to the Supreme Court. The top court declined the motion. They made it clear that any wrongdoing may still result in the process being canceled even after the final list is released. The court emphasized that the list is not immune to legal challenges just because it was released.
Election Commission Team to Review Bihar Prep
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, Election Commissioners Vineet Joshi and Dr. SS Sandhu will travel to Bihar from October 4–5. This is in order to check polling arrangements. It is anticipated that the team will meet with representatives of civil society, state authorities, and political parties.
