LSRC’s BAMMC students visit Prerana Anti-Trafficking Centre

Mumbai: Students of Bachelors of Arts in Multimedia and Mass Communication (B.A.M.M.C.) department of L. S. Raheja College of Arts and Commerce (LSRC) visited Prerana Anti-Trafficking Centre, Grant Road on 26thDecember 2022. Students organized this Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) event under the banner of the department’s academic Mass Media festival “Retake”. 

On the morning of 26th December 2022, Team Retake – the organizing team of the festival – came together to bring Christmas cheer to the underprivileged lot of the society. Members of Team Retake had organized a donation drive in L. S. Raheja College premises to collect various items that could be given at the centre. The team amassed variety of goods like food grains, biscuits, books & stationary, sanitary napkins & hygiene essentials that was then distributed amongst the residents at the centre. Distribution of Christmashats followed by the live musical performances by the team mates brought immense joy to the resident children in the centre who later grooved in to the latest Bollywood numbers alongwith the team. 

An ISR initiative before the academic festival, Retake, is a part of the LSRC’s BAMMC department’s manifesto. By organizing an ISR activity, the organizing team of Retake, sensitizes its peer group by acknowledging it duty towards the society. The objective of the ISR activity is to disseminate awareness and knowledge about issues plaguing society and implores its members to become a responsible citizen of tomorrow. From distributing food packets on Mumbai roads during Covid to visiting orphanages and Old Age homes, the team has stayed true to its declaration of undertaking accountability. 

Prerana Anti-Trafficking Centre is a Mumbai based NGO that devotes itself towards ending prostitution that spreads across generations. The centre is home to more than 30 children between the age group of 3 to 12. The objective of the NGO is to protect vulnerable children from the abhorrent trade of human trafficking by imparting these children with skills that make them self-reliant. Children here learn to stand their ground and repel attacks on their rights and dignity. Along with providing a safe environment, the NGO workers also support the resident’s education and health.

Retake is the national level inter-collegiate festival organized by the B.A.M.M.C department of L.S Raheja College of Arts & Commerce. Since 2015, Retake has been providing a platform for its organizers and participants to up their skill sets. This time, the festival is organized on 27th and 28thJanuary 2023 and the theme of the festival is Bane of the Benevolent. Needless to say, Team Retake is all set to deliver one more success story and raise its own mark.
