Roy leaves IPL due to personal reasons
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will begin two weeks from now, and on Sunday, the defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) announced their choice to replace England batter Jason Roy. The team that Shah Rukh Khan co-owns has stated that Roy withdrew from the IPL 2024 for personal reasons. After captain Shreyas Iyer and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan were ruled out of the previous edition, Knight Riders signed Roy for the 2023 IPL. KKR signed the England opener with ₹1.5 crore, which was his base price. Phil Salt will take Roy’s place in the KKR roster for the 2024 season, according to a media advisory released by the Indian Premier League.
As Roy’s replacement for the 2024 IPL, Salt joins KKR
After playing for the Delhi Capitals (DC) the previous season, Salt was unsold at the IPL 2024 auction. Salt’s second season will be in the IPL in 2024. The England hitter signed a contract with KKR for INR 1.5 crore, his reserve price. In December of last year, the England wicket-keeper batsman hit two straight hundreds in Twenty20 Internationals against the West Indies. In the fourth Twenty20 International at Trinidad, Salt also scored the joint-fastest century for England with 48 balls.
Roy VS Salt
Salt represents England in 19 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 21 Twenty20 Internationals. It’s interesting to remember that last year at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the 27-year-old made his IPL debut against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Salt completed the season third in DC’s run total at the IPL 2024, behind only Axar Patel (283) and David Warner (516). During the 2023 IPL, the former DC batsman scored 218 runs in nine games. Roy, a former KKR batter, scored 285 runs in just eight KKR games the previous season.
Dushmantha Chameera replaced Gus Atkinson in the squad
Earlier, KKR picked Dushmantha Chameera as Gus Atkinson’s replacement for IPL 2024. The Sri Lankan speedster has joined KKR at his reserve price of INR 50 lakh. Under the leadership of Iyer, former champions Kolkata Knight Riders will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Eden Gardens on March 23.
