Lokpal of India: new face to get appointed

Former Supreme Court Justice A M Khaniwilkar, acknowledged for decriminalising homosexuality, clearing strict provisions of PMLA and FCRA, and upholding take a seat smooth chit to Gujarat govt for 2002 riots, has been shortlisted among the names of the Lokpal’s New Chairman.

History of thrones:

Khaniwilkar 66, if appointed would be the second chairperson of Lokpal after the first chairperson former Supreme Court Justice Pinaki Ghosh, who was in charge from March 2019 to May 2022. In between the void place it was Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty has been the Acting Chairperson since.

Important aspects:

Khaniwilkar, who had a grip over preferrred courtroom from 2016, may to July 2022 untill retirement turned into part of a couple of key choices, from declining homosexuality to stricting rules within the route of overseas funding to strict stipulation within the Prevention of cash laundering Act (PMLA) and validating clean chit to then Gujarat chief Minister Narendra Modi at the side of sixty three others within the year 2002 Gujarat riots.

Khaniwilkar worked as a lawyer in the Supreme Court represented his home state Maharastra from 1984 after two years of enrolling their as an advocate and  a Standing Counsel and then as an Additional Government Advocate. During his 18 years of work life he took part in many challenging forums. The decision of shortlisting Khaniwilakar by a committee comprising the Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, the Speaker of the house, the Chief Justice of India and one “eminent jurist” nominated by the President.
