Mayawati Denies Expulsion Over Marriage, Calls Out ‘False Propaganda’
BSP chief clears the air on expulsion rumors and sets the record straight.

Recent reports suggested that Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) members were expelled for personal choices involving marriage alliances with rival party leaders. However, BSP chief Mayawati firmly denied these claims, stating that the expulsions were unrelated to the weddings.
Clash Between District Leaders Cited as Reason
Mayawati clarified the expulsion of Rampur district BSP leaders Surendra Sagar and Pramod Kumar stemmed from internal conflicts, not personal relationships. “The quarrel between former party president of Rampur district Surendra Sagar and current party president Pramod Kumar was at its peak due to which the party's work was suffering. Both of them were expelled and it has got nothing to do with the marriage,” she explained in a series of tweets on X.
‘People Are Free to Marry Anyone’
Addressing allegations that the BSP interferes in personal matters, Mayawati emphasized the party’s stance on individual freedom. “The party (BSP) is not concerned with the personal relationships of its cadre. People are free to marry anyone they want. It all depends on their thinking. But be cautious of those who spread false propaganda about this,” she stated, reiterating that the BSP upholds personal liberty.
Wedding of Former MP’s Son Barred Over By-Election Rivalry
The BSP supremo also addressed the barring of party members from attending former MP Munqad Ali’s son’s wedding. She linked the decision to a potential clash between supporters of the BSP and SP at the event. “The BSP also contested the seat. In such a situation, there was a general discussion about possible clashes between the people of both parties at the wedding. To avoid this, the party was forced to take this step. But the way it is being publicised is not right,” Mayawati explained.
Historical Ties Highlighted Amid Growing Tensions
The wedding in question involved Surendra Sagar’s son marrying the daughter of SP MLA Tribhuvan Dutt, a former BSP member. Meanwhile, another SP candidate, Sumbul Rana, married the son of former MP Qadir Rana, creating further speculation around political rivalries influencing personal events.
Mayawati’s clarification aims to dispel rumors while reiterating the BSP’s focus on political integrity over personal affiliations.
