The blue tick will now cost users USD 8 (about Rs 661.93), according to a series of tweets from Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk on November 1. In other words, anyone wishing to have their verified account identified with the easily recognisable symbol will need to pay Twitter for the privilege.

The blue tick, which denotes a prominent account and authenticity, has been granted to famous people in the past without charge.
