25th March, Mumbai: Canada has indicated that it is “closely following” the situation in Punjab and has conveyed its worry about it. The Indian state, where farmers have been opposing the new agricultural rules put in place by the Indian government, has drawn the attention of the Canadian government.

Since they began many months ago, the demonstrations in Punjab have drawn attention from around the world. The Indian government adopted three new laws in September 2020, and the farmers are resisting these rules. A number of Members of Parliament from Canada have also spoken out on the subject and backed the farmers’ cause.

Canada is “closely following” the situation in Punjab, according to a statement from Marc Garneau, the country’s minister of foreign affairs, and it is “concerned about the allegations of violence and the impact on the rights of peaceful protestors.” Garneau further demanded that the situation be resolved amicably and that the Indian government uphold the rights of the demonstrators.

The demonstrations have inspired sympathy from all throughout the world and have come to represent opposition against corporate greed and political oppression.
