The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has called for an investigation after an incident caused an IndiGo flight to abort takeoff on Friday night. The airline took a number of precautions after reports that sparks came from the plane’s wings while it was on the runway raised serious concerns.

According to the airline, the IndiGo flight, 6E2131, was en route from Delhi to Bangalore when “a technical issue while on take off roll” was reported. “Immediate after the pilot aborted the take off and the aircraft safely returned to the bay,” the carrier added. “On October 29, 2022, at 00:16, an alternative aircraft was scheduled to perform the flight. All passengers and crew are safe. We regret the difficulty brought on to the travellers,” it added.
Sparks were seen under the wing in unconfirmed images. A passenger appears to have captured the video, which was extensively disseminated online.

The aviation regulator declared after the incident that an investigation had been requested. “Concerned @DGCAIndia staff have been instructed to look into this and provide a report as soon as possible. (sic),” the DGCA stated in a tweet. The agency has recently become aware of many occurrences involving domestic carriers.
