IMD issues a Red Alert as Sikkim has been hit with a powerful monsoon this year and has created difficulty for the people of Sikkim in many districts. Over the past few days, Sikkim is experiencing heavy rainfall which has led to landslides and havoc in many districts of Sikkim. Due to heavy rainfall in Sikkim the roads between Mangam District and other districts washed away in a landslide.
Local Residents, Students, Tourists Stranded
This has created tension among the local residents and students. Their work life and normal life has been stranded due to such calamity. Nearly thousands of local people 1,200- 1,400 students and tourists in the district are stranded due to landslides. It seems their lives have come to a halt for some time.
CM To Provide Compensation To The Families Of Deceased
CM of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang has announced that the people who lost their lives due to floods, their families will get a compensation of ₹5 lakhs. The Government also promised the people of Sikkim that the roads that have been washed away due to heavy rain will be rebuilt and the people who lost their homes in the flood will be redeveloped.
Deaths Reported In Sikkim Due To Landslide
Past few days have been very difficult for the people of Sikkim. Many people have lost their lives and several are injured due to such landslides. A total of 67 families have been relocated. Due to floods people of Sikkim are also facing problems like food shortage, inability to move heavy vehicles, road closure problems. Government is trying their best to manage and handle the situation carefully and hoping that the situation gets better for the people of Sikkim as soon as possible.
