NEET Aspirant Dies by Suicide in Kota

Incident Details

An 18-year-old medical aspirant, Bagisha Tiwari, died by suicide a day after the NEET-UG results were announced. She jumped from the ninth floor of her building in Kota, Rajasthan.

Background

Bagisha was preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (UG) at a coaching institute in Kota. She lived on the fifth floor of a multi-storey building with her mother and brother. Her brother is also preparing for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE).

Immediate Response

After she jumped, Bagisha was rushed to a private hospital. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries an hour later.

Witness and Family Reaction

A woman saw Bagisha jumping and tried to stop her but was unsuccessful. The family and others quickly took her to the hospital. The police have kept her body in the mortuary at Maharao Bhim Singh (MBS) Hospital, awaiting her father’s arrival for the post-mortem.

Investigation

Circle Inspector Harinarayan Sharma stated that the reason for Bagisha’s extreme step is still unknown. Initial inquiries confirmed she had appeared for the NEET-UG exam.

Rising Concerns

This is the tenth case of suspected student suicide in Kota since January this year. Last year, 26 suspected suicides by coaching students were reported, the highest in recent years.
