Kolkata: Soon before the polls for West Bengal’s eight Lok Sabha seats on Friday night, there were news reports of the murder of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) panchayat leader in the East Midnapore district.
The police have identified the deceased as Sheikh Maibul, a local TMC leader from the Mahishadal area.
Sharp objects attacked a person in Mahishadal on Friday night, resulting in his death. There is a continuing investigation. Five people are in custody, according to a police official who is aware of the situation.
According to the TMC, goons backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) killed Maibul.In the past 72 hours, there have been two incidents in East Midnapore.The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Rathibala Ari allegedly died on Thursday in Nanidgram, Tamluk, sparking violent protests.

“The central authorities are not at work.” In many locations, the TMC has stopped BJP workers from entering the booths,” he said to the reporters.In the eastern state, voting for the Lok Sabha election’s sixth phase opened at 7 a.m. on Saturday.In the sixth phase, elections took place for eight Lok Sabha seats: Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, and Bishnupur.In the eight seats, voter turnout was 16.5% until 9 a.m., with Tamluk reporting the highest turnout at 19%. Purulia recorded the lowest turnout, with 12.3%.
