Pema Khandu is an Indian politician and the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. He is the son of former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Dorjee Khandu. Since assuming office as Chief Minister in July 2016, his government has changed party affiliations twice: first in September 2016 from the Indian National Congress to the Peoples Party of Arunachal, and then in December 2016 to the Bharatiya Janata Party. Previously, he served as Minister of Tourism, Urban Development, and Water Resources in Nabam Tuki's government.'
Victory and Continued Leadership in Arunachal Pradesh
And now, he has once again won the assembly polls with a resounding victory, securing 46 out of 60 seats in the assembly. This victory ensures that Pema Khandu will serve another term as Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. For the oath-taking ceremony, he and his cabinet colleagues will meet Governor K.T. Parnaik tomorrow morning. The Pema Khandu-led BJP won 46 seats, while the National People’s Party secured 5 seats. The Nationalist Congress Party won three seats, two were won by the People's Party of Arunachal, one by Congress, and three by Independent candidates. Although the NPP has offered support to the BJP government, the party is unlikely to have representation in the new Cabinet.
Youngest CM : Pema Khandu
Kerala's Pinarayi Vijayan, aged 79, is the oldest among the current Chief Ministers, while Arunachal Pradesh's Pema Khandu, aged 44, is the youngest. Nitish Kumar of Bihar holds the record for serving the most terms, having been Chief Minister for nine terms.
Tibetan Parliament's Congratulations to Pema Khandu
Earlier, Dolma Tsering Teykhang, Deputy Speaker of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, extended congratulations on behalf of Tibetans worldwide to Shri Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, and his party for their victory in the State Assembly election.
The Deputy Speaker wrote, “The new mandate clearly reflects your leadership quality and the confidence the people entrusted in you. Your achievements and selfless service towards India and especially the people of Arunachal Pradesh over the years are commendable.”
“Tibetan parliamentary delegation team had the honour of meeting you in 2022 during their visit to Arunachal Pradesh, to express gratitude to India and particularly to Arunachal Pradesh for their steadfast support for the just cause of Tibet and the Tibetan community living in your state.”
