PM Modi Flags Off 4 New Trains Including Vande Bharat Express, Linking Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka
On a two-day tour of his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flagged off four new trains including the Vande Bharat Express which will greatly strengthen railways.
New Delhi (India) November 8: The 100-seater train that was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8 (Saturday) is Southern Railway's first inter-state semi-high-speed premium train connecting both Tamil Nadu and Kerala with Karnataka.
The train will have an overall eight coaches and the major cities the train passes through will be Thrissur, Palakkad, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem before arriving in Krishnarajapuran (KR Puram) and KSR Bengaluru. This is the third Vande Bharat train from Kerala and a number of services have already connected various parts of the state.
Faster Connectivity Between Ernakulam and Bengaluru
This Vande Bharat Bharat Express cuts down travel time by over 3 hours as compared to the currently existing mail/express trains running on this route which take around 11 hours and 30 minutes. The train leaves Bengaluru at 5:10 am and reaches Ernakulam at 1:50 pm.The train returns by leaving Ernakulam at 2:20 pm and reaching Bengaluru at 11pm. It runs on all days except Wednesdays – the arrangements ensure no hindrance to movement of daily-wage labourers, students, tourists and pilgrims between these states.
Modern Features for a Comfortable Journey
The train is equipped with modern facilities such as GPS based passenger information system, bio-vacuum toilets, comfortable seating and improved aesthetics. With the proposed train service, business, education, tourism, pilgrimage and medical travel will receive a boost as three important southern States are connected through this high demand corridor also known as ‘Gateway of Kerala’, officials said.
Indian Railways Crosses 164 Vande Bharat Services Milestone
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off four new trains on November 8, 2025, Indian Railways achieved a feat of running as many as 164 Vande Bharat Express train services pan India. These trains including the Banaras-Khajuraho, Lucknow-Saharanpur, Firozpur-Delhi and Ernakulam-Bengaluru services would contribute in providing better regional connectivity besides boosting mobility.

The introduction of these Vande Bharat trains will offer even safer premium rail travel options with state-of-the art amenities to the Indian citizens in areas like GPS-based passenger information system, bio-vacuum type toilets, LED lighting, and comfortable seats. Prime Minister Modi said these trains will make the economy of different regions fully active as well as make the journey of passengers more convenient and boost their confidence. 164 Vande Bharat trains in operation and Indian Railways keeps connecting different parts of the country – New era for passengers travelling on these ‘Make in India’ express trains.
