The mother of Rohith Vemula, a Dalit student at the University of Hyderabad whose suicide ignited protests in 2016, joined the march as Rahul Gandhi entered Hyderabad on Tuesday, the 55th day of his Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Rahul tweeted a picture with her at the Yatra and said she had given him “new courage” to accomplish his objective. Rahul had previously visited the Hyderabad campus during the protests.
Leaders of the Congress expressed their excitement at the enormous number of students that attended, particularly those from Osmania University. They come to Rahul with complaints to air, but they are also moved by his padyatra and join him for as long as they can.
