Border districts of Gurdaspur and Pathankot have been put on high alert upon sightings of two armed individuals, suspected terrorists from Pakistan, in villages near the Pathankot district of Punjab that borders the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. Punjab and J&K’s police have been put on high alert after a villager of Kot Bathian Hamlet, situated near the International border, called the police control room late at night, informing that two masked, heavily armed forced the villager at gunpoint to serve him dinner at his farmhouse. The identify of the man has not been dislclosed.

BSF, Army, and Air Force Alerted Amidst Suspicions Of Terror

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Border Range, Rakesh Kaushal informant about the suspicious movement, following which an alert was issued to security forces including the Border Security Forces (BSF), the Army, Air Force, and the Mamun Cantonment. He further said that the situation will be curbed and there is no need to panic. Later, Senior Superintended of Police (SSP), Suhail Qasim Mir, of Pathankot, held a meeting with the senior officers where it was mentioned that the two armed men were later observed moving towards Kot Pannu village in Kathua. The police along with the security forces are operating accordingly since the alert.

All Vehicles Undergo Security Surveillance Ahead Of The Amarnath Yatra

Furthermore, Railway stations and bus stands of Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Dhariwal, and Dinanagar are being extensively checked. All vehicles moving on the Gurdaspur-Pathankot-Jammu National Highway have also been inspected properly. The search operation is still underway since this development, which comes right ahead of the Amarnath Yatra. The government is set to permit Shri Amarnath pilgrims to enter Jammu and Kashmir on June 29, with many ‘langar’ offering volunteers already arriving each day.

Punjab Police Receives Instructions To Tighten Security Ten Days Before The Spotting Of Two Men

Ten days prior, the Punjab Police issued instructions from sources to strictly increase security around the border areas of Pathankot, specifically near the Kathua district. Security Forces were put on 24-hour patrols. Abiding with the instructions, security surveillance has been conducted of all vehicles traveling between Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. Alongside this, security has also been increased on the road connecting Dunera via the Atal Setu bridge. Earlier on June 12, the security forces had shot down two terrorists suspected to have come from Pakistan and dismissed them. Although the two armed men have yet not been identified, the ongoing search operations promise to add more details to the situation.
