RCB become the first team to lose a home match this season: Kolkata beat Bengaluru by 7 wickets

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have achieved their second consecutive win in the Indian Premier League-2024 (IPL). The team beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 7 wickets in the 10th match of the current season. This is the first defeat of the host team this season. Before this, the host team had won 9 consecutive matches.

Match Summary

Kolkata chased down a target of 183 for 3 in 16.5 overs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday. Shreyas Iyer returned unbeaten with 39 runs and Rinku Singh returned unbeaten with 5 runs. Venkatesh Iyer played an important innings of 50 runs, while Sunil Narine played an innings of 47 runs and Phil Salt played an innings of 30 runs. Yash Dayal, Mayank Dagar and Vijayakumar Vaishakh got one wicket each.

Batting first, RCB scored 182 runs for 6 wickets in their quota of 20 overs. Virat Kohli played an innings of 83 runs in 59 balls from RCB. He hit 4 fours and 4 sixes. Scored 52nd fifty in the league. Apart from that, Cameron Greene contributed 33 runs and Glenn Maxwell 28 runs. Andre Russell and Harshit Rana got 2 wickets each for Kolkata.

KKR are second in the points table

With this win, the Kolkata Knight Riders team has moved to the second position in the current season's points table. After two matches, the team has 4 points in its account. Chennai is at the top of the table and Rajasthan is third. Both have also got 4 points each.

Shreyas hit a winning six

Kolkata Knight Riders won with 19 balls to spare. KKR captain Shreyas Iyer hit the winning six off the fifth ball of the 17th over, with the team registering their second straight win. Earlier the team defeated SRH.

RCB underperformed

Bengaluru bowling was not as impressive as their usual standard and fans expectations. The bowlers from RCB bowled too many poor deliveries and gave away free runs to the opposition. With this loss, the streak of the home side winning all their matches in the competition has come to an end. Bengaluru will go back to the dressing room after the match and will hope to prepare better before their next game to maintain a good rank in the points table.

Sunil Narine is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his stellar batting performance. He also had a wicket to his name. He said in the post match conference, “It is a nice milestone and I hope that I can play 500 more games. I Feel happy to have been able to play like this in a milestone game. Self-belief and support from the support staff have been the key. The Powerplay overs are the hardest and it is about keeping things quiet when you return in the middle overs. The support staff has given them the freedom to do what we want.”
