MI Lose Momentum After Strong Start

DoT, MHA and NDMA launch initiative

An ‘Extremely Serious Alert’ warning sound went off on telephones around the nation on Saturday, as the Centre unveiled a broadcast system for timely communication throughout times of emergencies and disasters. 

It said, “India, launches Cell Broadcast using indigenous technology, for instant disaster alerting service for its citizens. Alert citizens, safe nation. No action is required by the public upon receipt of this message. This is a test message. - Government of India.”

System to Warn During Natural Disasters

Cell broadcast notifications are a significant update to sms-based alerts. They have been made to obtain quick attention and would certainly overtake some other telephone options if utilized, to trigger loud alarms with on-screen notifications whether a person has their smartphone turned off. The system can be utilized for delivering necessary info throughout normal and man-made catastrophes, for example earthquakes, tsunamis, lightning strikes, chemical leakages, among others. 

Nationwide Trials Underway Before Official Launch

The advancement followed a declaration in the earlier days that the govt would be carrying out tests around the new mobile alerts as well as cautioned the general public to not pay attention to alerts produced throughout those trials. 

"As part of the pan-India rollout and the launch of the Cell Broadcast (CB) facility, nationwide testing and trials are currently being conducted to assess the system's performance and reliability prior to its formal inauguration and dedication to the nation. During this period, members of the public may receive test messages in English, Hindi and regional languages on their mobile devices," the statement said.
