Jaishankar On Cross-Border Terrorism 

Without naming Pakistan, Jaishankar reiterated India's zero-tolerance towards terror and said that governments that nurture or shelter terror must be held to account.

He said, "Yesterday, a serial practitioner of terrorism misrepresented facts before this assembly. Arguments were invoked to normalise terrorism and claim immunity from its consequences. That will not stand. Our right to defend ourselves against terrorism will be exercised. Friendship and goodwill cannot coexist with terrorism, and understandings premised on that will naturally be called into question. It is for the perpetrator of terrorism to mend its ways.

India has said that the threat of cross-border terrorism is inseparable from its bilateral relationships and has also said that nations that give financial help, shelter and sanctuary to terror groups must be punished.

Response To Sharif’s Speech

The comments followed Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's speech at the UN General Assembly, in which he hailed the Pakistani response to India and declared "victory" in Operation Sindoor in 2025. He also appreciated US President Donald Trump for his 'timely intervention'.

“His timely intervention came at a decisive juncture when two nuclear-armed neighbors stood at the brink of an all-out war. And, who knows, Mr. President, the extent of devastation that could have taken place had President Trump not stepped in at this critical moment with clarity of thought and action. Mr President, we must therefore ensure that South Asia never reaches that precipice ever again,” Sharif said.

India Backs Two-State Solution

On West Asia, Jaishankar said India backed a two-state solution and that India was extending assistance and relief to the Palestinian people.

He said, "India is prepared to do everything possible to ameliorate this situation, especially with regard to food and energy security. Tensions and violence also regrettably continue in West Asia or the Middle East. We strongly believe that a durable and lasting peace requires a two-state solution.”

"In the meanwhile, India is contributing to humanitarian assistance and relief efforts for the Palestinian people. Let us recognize that peace is not just the absence of war. If the world is subjected to continuous threats and pressures, then we are really living on the edge of an abyss. All it takes is one more step to push us over. Therefore, it is imperative to strengthen stability, security, and predictability. These are crucial elements of the enabling environment for peace," he added.

Delegates Walk Out During Netanyahu Speech

As Netanyahu arrived at the podium, dozens of delegates left. The Israeli leader responded by declaring the departing delegates "moral cowards" and went on with his speech as empty seats could be seen in the hall. Netanyahu was greeted with applause and cheers from supporters sitting in the gallery of the hall.

Netanyahu said, "Before I begin, just a quick announcement: if there are any other moral cowards who haven’t yet left this hall, please do so now. Thank you very much.”

Netanyahu Praises Trump Support

Netanyahu held Trump in high regard, noting that Israel and the United States worked side-by-side to push back the threat from Iran. In addition, he cited US-Israel cooperation as the reason for Israel's efforts against Iran's aggression. 

"In this battle against the barbarians, we've had no greater partner than President Trump. I thank him for his bold leadership. He boldly confronted an enormous danger to America, Israel, and the world. Israel and America acted together, not only to protect ourselves, but to save civilization," he said.

Israel Defends Military Action Against Iran

Netanyahu said Israel had no choice but to take action against Iran. His comments came as tensions remain high following Israel's military campaign against Iran. He has said the attack is necessary to stop Iran from building a nuclear bomb.

"Devastating Iran's nuclear facilities was hard. It was very hard to do. But for me, it was one of the easiest decisions I've ever had to make as prime minister. Because if we hadn't done it, we'd all be dead. Now, you want to hear the ultimate irony? In defending itself, Israel is also defending many of the countries whose delegates just left this hall. Many of their leaders even thank us privately for taking out Iran's nukes. It's hard to imagine more mind-blowing hypocrisy, but that's exactly what it is," he said.

Netanyahu Recalls 2024 Pager Attack

Netanyahu displayed a pager during his address as he announced Israel's 2024 operation against Hezbollah. He mentioned the group's leaders had lost significantly and called out the pager blasts that hit Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon and Syria. 

The September 2024 pager attack detonated pagers remotely used by Hezbollah operatives and resulted in deaths and injuries throughout Lebanon and some areas of Syria.

“You remember the beepers? Remember these things? Remember them? Well, I can tell you this: Hezbollah certainly remembers them. Hezbollah's leaders, dead. Their spirit, broken. The arch terrorists, the worst mass murderers on earth, not only killing Israelis, killing Americans, killing Brits, killing citizens of hundreds, dozens of countries. They're all gone too. The remaining terrorists are desperately trying to regroup. Every day, they try to murder our people. And in particular, they try to murder our people in our historic homeland, in Judea,” he said.

Netanyahu Targets Mamdani Over Genocide Claims

He also briefly mentioned Mamdani in his speech, criticising the New York Mayor for creating an atmosphere where Jews feel uneasy and for sympathising with those who have voiced pro-Hamas sentiments. He further accused Mamdani of trying to dissuade him from attending the UN, and dismissed charges that Israel is guilty of genocide against Gaza.

“Mr. Mamdani, you try to stop me from coming here. You tried to silence me. Well, you can't silence me. You can't silence the truth. And here's the simple truth. Here's a simple truth: Israel didn't commit genocide; Israel prevented genocide," he said.

Sharif Avoids Media Questions

When the Pakistani Prime Minister was entering the UN headquarters, the media shouted, "Prime Minister, when will you stop harbouring terrorists?", to which the Pakistani Prime Minister turned the other way. As Sharif was exiting the UN headquarters, the media asked, "When will you prosecute LeT chief Hafiz Saeed", to which the Pakistani Prime Minister did not reply and left.

India Raises Terror Concerns

Just a day before, India had at the United Nations lambasted Pakistan for emphasizing on territorial disputes and cross-border terrorism while ignoring the economic and social issues at home.

In a statement at the UN Human Rights Council where India was exercising the right of reply, Indian envoy Kshitij Tyagi asked Pakistan to develop instead of dreaming to grab the lands of others or supporting terror.

"Pakistan would better serve its people by focusing on development, rather than by coveting territory of others or exporting terror, because neither these nor its theatrics in the Council would help repay the loans its economy survives on," he said as per ANI.

Tyagi Raises POK Human Rights Issues

Kshitij Tyagi highlighted the internal hypocrisy of Islamabad, which includes civilian suppression and bad humanitarian situation in POK where protests are gunned down and new restrictions are imposed on food, medicine and fuel supplies.

He said, "This Council was told last Friday of scores of civilians killed since June in the territory Pakistan occupies, of students arrested in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, and of food and medicine held back. When those accounts were given, Pakistan's answer was a point of order. If any delegation in this room meets every objective criterion for this Council's scrutiny, it is Pakistan.”

Terrorism Issue In Focus

The exchange with the Pakistani PM refocuses attention on the Hafiz Saeed matter as India persists in raising the issue of terror networks based in Pakistan. The NIA has included Hafiz Saeed in its supplementary chargesheet against those involved in the Pahalgam attack. The agency has linked the attack to a conspiracy with LeT/TRF operatives based in Pakistan.

The exchange of questions was striking because the inquiries did not concern some broad ideological or political dispute. They were about Saeed, a LeT founder based in Pakistan who has been named as a terrorist by India and is wanted in the case of the 26/11 Mumbai attack.

He made the statement after a speech by US President Donald Trump, who denounced the continuing confrontation with Tehran and warned that Washington could "annihilate the Islamic Republic" if an agreement was not reached.

Pezeshkian Defends Iran’s Actions

President Masoud Pezeshkian took on US President Donald Trump during his speech to the UN General Assembly, rebutting the narrative of Iran as a "terrorist state." He held a number of photographs of victims of the Minab school attack, demonstrating the civilians who have lost their lives. Pages of photographs of graves and children and victims of attacks on Iranian civilians were shown as he made his speech about the attacks on Iranian civilians.

He said, “We have only defended ourselves. We are not terrorists. Our innocent people have been the targets of cowardly attacks and aggressions imposed upon our country. And we defended ourselves with utmost strength. America and Israel attacked us.”

“I come from an Iran in which our esteemed Supreme Leader was assassinated without any legal framework or reason. I come from Iran where, in truth, they bombed a school,” he added.

The US delegation left the UN General Assembly room as Pezeshkian spoke in response to the US and Israeli attack and President Donald Trump's comments on Tehran.

Iran Protects Nuclear Rights

On Iran's nuclear program, President Pezeshkian said Tehran would not renounce its right as it understands it to be civilian nuclear technology. He affirmed the distinction between the civilian program in Iran and the production of nuclear warheads. 

"We will not bow our head and give up the right that is inherently ours. We say it clearly- no nuclear weapons, and no limitations to peaceful nuclear technology." he said.

Pezeshkian challenged the double standards of nuclear inspections, stating Israel had nuclear and other weapons while Iran still is subject to calls for international inspections.

Strait Of Hormuz Under Focus

Pezeshkian's speech also focused on the vital Strait of Hormuz, where a large amount of the world's energy trade takes place. Since the war began, shipping through the strait has been affected, making its re-opening a major goal in the diplomatic talks.

"It cannot be the case that everyone benefits from the Strait of Hormuz while we are denied access to shipping through this waterway. The permanent deployment of hostile fleets and the expansion of the war will not lead to peace," he said.

India Rejects Tribunal’s Authority

India has repeatedly disavowed the Court of Arbitration, claiming it was formed in breach of the Indus Waters Treaty and that it had never acknowledged the tribunal or engaged in its activities. It has further argued that the tribunal lacks authority over India's sovereign actions and that its rulings do not influence the way it acts.

“Pakistan has a habit of misrepresenting facts and propagating falsehoods to serve its malicious propaganda. For starters, the so-called ruling is not a ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration, as sought to be projected by the Pakistan minister, but by an illegally constituted court,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

“We see this as just one more attempt by Pakistan at distorting the reality. Our position on this issue is very clear and we have reiterated it several times,” he added.

MEA Calls Tribunal Illegal

Last April, India deferred the Indus Waters Treaty after terrorists from across the border targeted Pahalgam, resulting in 26 casualties. Delhi announced that the treaty would be held in abeyance until Pakistan irretrievably terminates its support of terrorism.

On August 31, the Court of Arbitration announced its decision that the Indus Waters Treaty was still valid and that it could not be suspended by India alone. India objected to the Court's decision as 'illegally constituted' and said it did not have jurisdiction over India's sovereign actions.

The MEA said, "Today, the illegally constituted so-called Court of Arbitration (CoA) has issued what it termed as an award concerning Interim Measures and Status of the Indus Waters Treaty. This so-called court was constituted by the World Bank in patent breach of the terms of the Treaty and India categorically rejects its so-called award, just as it has firmly rejected all prior pronouncements by this illegally constituted body.”

India Seeks Action On Terrorism

At Tuesday's briefing Jaiswal said Pakistan must demonstrate concrete action against cross-border terrorism before being taken seriously.

“Pakistan needs to demonstrate action and firm commitment. And it must take credible action against cross-border terrorism before the world believes it would do what it says,” he said.

Jaiswal's comments followed Pakistan's addition of PKR 20 lakh more to the bounty on Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar in the latest list of Most Wanted terrorists before the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). New Delhi rejected it as a "gimmick" and said Islamabad must move beyond these false announcements to take real action against Azhar.

Pakistan has said Azhar is not in the country and is in Afghanistan. The Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist has been linked to several high-profile terror attacks against India including the 2001 Parliament attack, Pathankot and Pulwama terror strikes. 

Jaishankar urged increased international collaboration and called for steps to prevent conflicts, regulate emerging technologies and barriers to dominance and disruptions, and above all, to support the observance of international law, rules and norms.

Jaishankar Pushes Global Cooperation

S Jaishankar said on social media platform X that the summit provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of multilateralism when international cooperation was under significant strain amid heightened competition, geopolitics and conflicts.

He said, "We meet at a time when the global order is under stress. For some decades, the world has witnessed a steady rebalancing, which was a long-expected structural evolution. However, extreme competition, geopolitical tensions, and actual conflicts have given this an entirely different character. If left unchecked, it would call into question the very spirit of international cooperation. That is why it is so essential that multilateralism asserts itself strongly at this juncture.”

Albanese Backs UN Cooperation

Anthony Albanese, the Australian Prime Minister who announced that the country would run for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2029-30 term, said no one can solve the global problems alone.

“When we look at the challenges confronting us: a land war in Europe, conflict in the Middle East, global inflation, the rise of new technologies, including artificial intelligence that present opportunities but also have very significant risks before us. To solve them, we must commit to the UN Charter, but we must also resolve to make the system work more effectively,” Albanese said.

India-EU Ties Discussed

Jaishankar also interacted with EU colleagues. Among the issues discussed were expanding India-EU cooperation, multilateral cooperation and major international developments, such as in the Gulf, Ukraine and Indo-Pacific region.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Mr. Andrii Sybiha, said on X that he was happy to meet with Minister Jaishankar to talk about peace initiatives, bilateral cooperation and global affairs. They discussed the developments in the Black Sea and their impact on the market, stated Minister Sybiha, adding that the free navigation is a critical factor for global food security. 

V4 Supports India's UN Bid

Four Central European nations in a Visegrad Group, a bloc called for India to get a permanent membership of the UN Security Council, with Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar claiming that India must be at the table at the highest decision-making forum of the world body.

"We all agree as V4 countries that India, as a part of the Global South country, an upcoming superpower in the Indo-Pacific region, must be at the table as the permanent member of the UN Security Council," Blanar said.

The bloc comprises Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

He said, “We remain in contact with the mediator Qatar, which has conveyed our conditions to Washington with the aim of ending the war. We are awaiting President Trump’s response,” according to Al Jazeera.

“It is in Washington’s interest to accept these conditions. Trump’s threats will not achieve any results. We are prepared for a decisive war,” Rezaei added.

Seven Demands for Talks

In a separate post on social media platform X, he said Iran had announced seven conditions to begin talks with Washington and described Iran's stance as clear and unambiguous.

"Iran has announced 7 conditions for starting any negotiations to the US government. Tehran's message is clear and unambiguous; if Washington wants to escape the quagmire it has created for itself and avoid getting further entangled in it, it has no choice but to accept Iran's rights and conditions," he said.

Iran Ready for Attack

Rezaei did not rule out the possibility of another United States attack, saying that this was very much on the cards, according to Iranian military assessments. Tehran is ready for such an attack, he said, and the Islamic Republic's military planning had been reorganized after two previous confrontations.

He said that the US naval forces had been the target of the current plan, which focused along the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Rezaei also said Iran had recently tested a multi-warhead anti-ship missile in the vicinity of a US vessel.

Nuclear Stance Stays Firm

On Iran's nuclear program, Rezaei said that Tehran had not decided to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, but that US actions could press Iran in that direction. He said that Iran would not change its doctrine on the nuclear issue and that Tehran still abided by a religious decree banning the use of nuclear weapons.

Rezaei rejected speculation that Iran might close the Strait of Bab al-Mandeb as well, saying that the waterside near Bab al-Mandeb was "a Yemeni issue," referring to the Houthi insurgency.

"The government of India has noted the passage of the Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act in the US Congress. We are monitoring further developments on this matter. As stated on several earlier occasions, India remains firmly committed to ensuring energy security for its 1.4 billion people. It will continue to do so through diversified sourcing and on the basis of evolving market dynamics," India said.

"This issue has been discussed at high levels in recent months with various US interlocutors. Its potential implications for not just the bilateral relationship but also the international energy market have been very clearly articulated by the Indian side," it added.

New Bill Targets Russian Oil Buyers

The Bill comes as India and the US are engaged in negotiations for an initial trade pact. India has also increased its purchase of Russian oil vis-a-vis last year, but the President would have the discretion to waive sanctions on national security grounds, the Bill says.

The House passed the Bill by 262-159 with dozens of Democrats joining a majority of the Republicans in support of sanctions and tariffs related to Russia's war in Ukraine. The law aims to put pressure on Moscow on its war on Ukraine, targeting the Russian energy and defence sectors and its "shadow fleet" of tankers that is alleged to be helping Moscow evade existing sanctions. It also imposes additional sanctions on Iran.

Tariffs Remain At Trump’s Discretion

For India, perhaps the most significant provision is the power given to Trump to levy secondary tariffs on major buyers of Russian energy. The legislation authorizes such tariffs of up to 100% on countries that continue to buy Russian oil and gas. India and China have been singled out in the House debate as major buyers which may be subject to this provision.

However, simply passing the bill does not automatically entail a 100% tariff on Indian goods, it merely grants Trump the discretion to use these tariffs. Last year, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on Indian goods as India continued to purchase discounted Russian crude oil. This was subsequently withdrawn as India and the US engaged in Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. 

OIC Condemns Holy City Strikes

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the heinous strikes on the holy cities of Mecca and Medina by the Houthi militias, saying they threatened civilians' lives, violated the sanctity of Holy places and provoked Muslims around the world.

"The General Secretariat expresses its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to deter the aggressors, preserve the sanctity of holy sites and the lives of Muslims, and protect its security and sovereignty," the OIC said.

Houthis Deny Targeting Mecca

The Houthis deny being responsible for the drone and missile attacks launched against Mecca which they call a lie.

Houthi politburo member Hezam al-Asad said in a post on social media platform X, "The fabrications and lies promoted by the criminal Al Saud regime regarding the targeting of the Honorable Mecca cannot deceive anyone, for it is they who desecrate it with debauchery and licentiousness and by importing prostitutes, and there is no threat from Yemen to the sanctities. Our operations target its oil facilities and military bases, which are far removed from the sacred sites.”

Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the Houthi military spokesperson, said that the Houthi operation was against the Saudi's oil installations and military bases far away from the holy sites.

India Expresses Deep Concern

The Ministry of External Affairs said India is deeply concerned over the drone attack near Mecca. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson R Jaiswal criticized the drone attacks on the kingdom given the religious significance of the city.

“We are deeply concerned at the drone attack near Makkah (Mecca). India reiterates its condemnation of attacks on the sovereign territory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and of actions that endanger civilian lives and infrastructure. The incident near Makkah is particularly concerning, given the special significance of the city to Muslims across the world," Jaiswal said.

India-China Ties Show Improvement

Both sides hailed the sound development of India-China bilateral relations since they last met in Tianjin in August 2025 and agreed on the necessity of dealing with relations strategically and from a long-term perspective.

PM Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping noted the progress in people-to-people relations and called for the promotion of cultural exchanges, business ties and greater mobility between the two nations. 

Reiterating the importance of stable and forward-looking relations between two large Asian countries, it is stated that dialogues are a sign of strong efforts between the two nations to enhance dialogue and cooperation.

Modi Calls Border Peace Essential

During the bilateral talks, PM Modi pressed "peace and tranquility" as a sine qua non of relations between the two nations.

"Prime Minister emphasised that peace and tranquillity in the border areas remain an essential basis for the continued development of bilateral relations. He underlined the need for both sides to observe existing agreements and understandings on border-related issues. The two leaders expressed commitment to a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary question proceeding from the political perspective of their overall bilateral relations and the long-term interests of the two peoples," the statement said.

Xi Stresses Shared Global Responsibilities

Chinese President Xi Jinping has told Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the bilateral meeting that the leadership in Beijing is dealing with India strategically and with a long term vision of mutual interaction.

Xi Jinping said, "China has always viewed and developed its relations with India from a strategic and long-term perspective. Although our two countries have different national conditions, we can fully learn from each other's strengths, support one another, achieve success together, and pursue common development.”

He added, "In the face of the profound changes unseen in a century and the unprecedented pandemic situation, China and India, as the world's two most populous countries and important members of the Global South, shoulder significant responsibilities. Both sides should keep the future of humanity in mind and care for the well-being of our peoples, working together to play the role of major countries. We should advocate an equal and orderly multipolar world, not privatise our own interests, and contribute more positive energy to world peace, stability, development, and prosperity.”

BRICS Flags West Asia Tensions

Earlier, all BRICS nations also adopted the 'New Delhi Declaration-2026', expressing concern over the tensions in West Asia by calling for "utmost restraint" while further stating to avoid actions that will worsen the issue.

“We urge to ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure in accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations in their entirety and interconnectedness, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the States. We encourage increasing efforts, through dialogue and diplomacy, towards a long-term understanding that will contribute to lasting peace, security and stability in the region. We stress the need to work together to maintain smooth flow of global trade, supply chains and energy, in accordance with applicable international law, ” the declaration said.

The outcome represents diplomatic success for India as host country at the 18th BRICS summit to forge consensus among the grouping members, and ensures West Asia does not become a spoiler for the summit. 

Members Condemn Pahalgam Attack

The BRICS summit members condemned the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were killed in Kashmir valley last April, and called it "criminal and unjustifiable."

"We express strong condemnation of any acts of terrorism as criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, whenever, wherever and by whomsoever committed. We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April 2025, during which 26 people were killed and many more injured. We reaffirm our commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including the cross-border movement of terrorists, terrorism financing and safe havens. We reiterate that terrorism should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group and that all those involved in terrorist activities and their support must be held accountable and brought to justice in accordance with relevant national and international law," the declaration said.

West Asia Tensions Addressed

The summit declaration also demanded reforms of the multilateral institutions such as a structural update of the United Nations Security Council, and criticized unilateral acts of war and called for the safety of seafarers and commercial navigation in the current military action in the Middle East. 

“We express deep concern over the continued escalation of tensions in Middle East/West Asia and, recalling our respective national positions, call for exercising maximum restraint, as well as avoiding actions that could further aggravate the situation,” the statement said.

“We encourage increasing efforts, through dialogue and diplomacy, towards a long-term understanding that will contribute to lasting peace, security and stability in the region. We stress the need to work together to maintain smooth flow of global trade, supply chains and energy, in accordance with applicable international law," it added.

BRICS Backs WTO Reform

BRICS also reiterated commitment to reform the World Trade Organization (WTO) and for an open, transparent, fair and rules-based global trade.

"We note that the multilateral trading system has long been at a crossroads. The proliferation of trade-restrictive actions that are inconsistent with WTO rules, whether in the form of indiscriminate rising of tariffs and non-tariff measures, or protectionism under the guise of environmental objectives, threatens to further reduce global trade, disrupt global supply chains, and introduce uncertainty into international economic and trade activities, potentially exacerbating existing economic disparities and negatively affecting prospects for global economic development," the declaration said.

Modi Proposes Ten Reform Measures

The PM declared his proposal, suggesting the member countries must come out with ten proposals regarding reforms in global governance and submit the proposals as a BRICS reform road map before the ensuing summit.

"Today, the Global South stands in the front row of global crises but in the back row of decision-making. We must transform this 'pyramid of privilege' into a 'platform of partnership' -- one where every nation has a voice, every member has a stake, and the development of humanity lies at the heart of every effort," he said.

"In this regard, I propose that we jointly formulate 10 proposals for global governance reform, aiming to shape them into a BRICS reform roadmap by the time of the next summit," he added.

Continuity Mechanism For BRICS Projects

Modi demanded BRICS translate their unity and consensus into concrete work. He urged the member countries to work on a fresh agenda for the next 20 years with a provision of continuity of BRICS projects despite an yearly change in presidency.

He said, “Now is the time to translate our unity and consensus within BRICS into concrete outcomes on the global stage. For the next twenty years, we must work on a new and ambitious agenda. We must begin by improving our own working systems.”

He added, “The BRICS presidency changes every year, but our institutional momentum should not come to a halt because of this. I propose a BRICS Continuity and Implementation Mechanism.”

Maritime Emergency Network Proposed

Considering the Iran conflict which has also exposed maritime shipping vulnerabilities, PM Modi said that he proposed for a seafarers' emergency support network for BRICS nations. The PM said this will assist maritime rescue services and seafarers by assisting them on distress signals, medical assistance and their communication with their loved ones along with providing an evacuation infrastructure. 

Moreover, on the much desired path for India as the chair of BRICS, a joint statement was also agreed upon, calling it to "deplore" aggression of all forms, which could prove critical while the conflict continues in the Middle East.

"As BRICS enters its third decade, I would like to urge the BRICS Business Council: Can you prepare a report on removing the top 10 trade barriers among BRICS nations? Can we support 100 BRICS startups annually to scale up in other BRICS markets? Can we forge a thousand new partnerships among our businesses? We should review our progress on these three parameters every year. Let us transform BRICS' ambitions into action and our collective strength into global solutions. Let BRICS move forward and propel the world forward as well," PM Modi said.

Modi, Guterres Discuss Global Reforms

Prime Minister Modi on Friday met United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Delhi on the side-lines of the BRICS Summit. The leaders noted that multipolarity is important and the UN Security Council among other international multilateral organisations should also be modified and reformed as it reflects current real world conditions. 

The discussions were about the current conflict scenarios, the right to freedom and navigation, the concept of human centered artificial intelligence, achievements gained in renewable energy sources, food security around the globe.

Ramaphosa Highlights BRICS Strength

The president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa declared on Friday that BRICS is a major international forum, because the grouping possesses a huge demography and economy of the world, thus its members represent half of the world's population and 40% of the world GDP. 

Ramaphosa said, "BRICS is a very important forum for all of us. It's a very big collection of countries in the world. It represents a huge population. 50 per cent of the world's population lives in BRICS countries. And already now, 40 per cent of GDP is in BRICS, so we are an important forum.”

Ramaphosa made this remark at the time when the BRICS bloc, expanded further, aimed for enhanced economic collaboration within itself against the altering situations in world trade, technology and investments patterns. 

Goyal Pushes Digital Payment Integration

Union minister Piyush Goyal in his address on Friday called upon the BRICS countries to integrate the respective payment methods of their nations, promote local currency trade and easy trade related digital access for everyone in world trade.

"Today, it (UPI) is also accepted in 11 countries and I would urge the BRICS member countries and partner countries to link our payment systems, trade in each other's local currencies, make digital trade global and build together for the future emerging technologies," he said.

The development came as the U.S. has intensified its criticisms on the attempts of the group towards challenging dollar prominence, as an ample indication of the aspiration of the alliance towards consolidating alternatives on the existing international economic system.

Modi Pushes India-Russia Trade

PM Modi said that the Indo-Russian economic partnership is constantly moving towards new heights, and with Russia President Vladimir Putin he took part in the INNOPROM industrial expo involving firms from both countries.

"The India-Russia economic partnership continues to gather momentum. In Delhi, President Putin and I participated in INNOPROM, bringing together several companies from both countries. It reflects the growing depth of our business engagement," Modi said in a post on social media platform X.

India Backs Safe Navigation

PM Modi in his dialogue with President of Iran, Mr. Masoud Pezeshkian pushed for free navigation and movement and assured the welfare of mariners.

"The two leaders exchanged views on recent developments in Middle East. Prime Minister reiterated India's consistent position that all issues must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. He also underscored the need for continued efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region, safeguarding freedom of navigation and commerce, and the safety and well-being of seafarers," the Ministry of External Affairs said.

Iran Highlights Strategic Connectivity

President of Iran, Mr. Masoud Pezeshkian called for stronger emphasis towards local currencies on BRICS commerce while highlighting the geographical advantages of his nation as well as energy sources and road networks as a strong liaison to boost and connect economies of the group. Mr.Pezeshkian said that it is time the block should utilize its complete economic capability in an integrated manner of trade, investment and jointly sponsored funding.

He also noted that an expanded mechanism of employing national currencies at transaction on an intra-BRICS platform would decrease vulnerability towards financial turbulence to better manage risks of exchange and settle payments between member nations on a reciprocal basis.

"The world today is going through one of its most complex periods. Geopolitical uncertainty, disruption in its supply chains and the increasing use of economic instruments to exert political pressure have made the economic environment in which countries operate more complex. The question is, what is BRICS response to these challenges? We believe that the true strength of BRICS is not confined merely to the size of its members' economics, rather it becomes more apparent when these capacities are transformed into a network of trade, investment and joint financing - a transition from potential cooperation to an operational one,” Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said.

Jaishankar Defends India’s Energy Choice

Answering the media question with respect to Ukraine's unease over the buying of Russian oil from India, Jaishankar said India has to take care of the needs of its 1.4 billion people and it is something countries can surely understand. He added, irrespective of the situation if India buys or not buys the energy from the Russian federation, the problem will remain where it is right now. He also said that the conflict has already been between the two nations for 5 years.

“You know, the reason for your question, I get that, but I think it’s also important that all of you get the challenges of providing for energy for 1.4 billion people at a time when the world energy situation is very, very difficult. So, I would say, this is something where clearly the Ukraine side has its perspective, which we respect, and we have ours, which I would expect others to also respect,” Jaishankar said.

“This conflict, which is today in its fifth year, will not be solved because somebody is buying or not buying oil or minerals or metals or fertiliser. This conflict will be solved by dialogue, by diplomacy, by negotiation. And that is why it is something we would encourage,” he added.

US Threatens Tariffs On Russian Oil Buyers

The remarks came at a time when there were discussions around possible US sanctions on countries which will continue buying Russian oil. India has previously cited that its energy purchase has to be made looking at India's interest which has to ensure cheap energy for its people securely.

The US senate passed a bipartisan bill last month to grant powers to the president to impose up to 100 percent tariffs to goods from countries which continue to buy Russian oil and gas including both India and China. It also mentioned that buying this oil from the Russian federation directly supports the Russian economy and finances Russia's operations in Ukraine.

Zelensky Thanks India For Support

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky cited his meeting with S Jaishankar and thanked India for standing up to end this "unjust war". India and Ukraine have been in touch regularly irrespective of New Delhi being perceived as being pro-Russia.

“Held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. We discussed important issues. We are grateful to India for its desire to end this unjust war—the war of Russia against Ukraine. This time must certainly not be a time of war. Peace is needed. This is India's clear position,” Zelensky said in a post on social media platform X.

RSS Chief Stresses Importance Of Pluralism

Bhagwat was addressing the “Universal Oneness Celebration”, an event in the US, hosted by American Hindus for Engagement and Dialogue. The RSS chief chose ‘oneness’ as the theme of his discourse and linked it to pluralism with reference to the US and what he called Bharat's unity in diversity.

"When we say America, United States of America, one word is often discussed frequently, that is pluralism. And when we say Bharat, another phrase is discussed: unity in diversity," he said.

"For Bharat, this unity and diversity, both are in the DNA. What is the destiny given to Bharat? Bharat is there to realise, and from time to time, make the world realise this unity in diversity. We are one, and due to this diversity, that oneness is decorated. Diversity has to be celebrated, respected, accepted, and at the same time, we must keep in mind this feeling of oneness. It is a very real feeling," he added.

Bhagwat Recalls Service During Air Crash

Bhagwat also invoked the Charkhi Dadri mid-air collision, one of the world’s worst air crashes, nearly three decades ago. In his address, Bhagwat brought to notice of the accident saying that they believed in service to humanity without any expectations. 

"Two planes collided over Haryana, which is part of Bharat, over the place named Dadri. Both were from Arab countries. Most of the passengers were Muslims. After that collision, our Swayamsevaks reached there first, and they served. Served in treating the injured. Recovering their bodies, arranging for the funeral rites when their relatives come, helping them in identifying. We never thought at that time that these were Muslims," he said.

He added, "The prominent working organisation was RSS. We could do this because we are not in politics. And we don't go on making these things famous because we don't want anything from this. No return. In Sangha, we only give. We don't want anything. That is why in publicity matters, we are way behind.”

Bhagwat Criticises Politics Driven By Self-Interest

Bhagwat said that political systems and governments could not facilitate such change. In a democratic set up, political actors respond to public sentiments and public demand. Thus, the first step has to come from within. He said that it is impossible for the society to develop cohesiveness only through attainment of political power. This requires sustained engagement and service in day-to-day interactions.

He said, "Politics today, especially in a democracy, depends on the public view. If there is public opinion, then no politician will dare to go against it. Therefore, I think after taking a common resolve today, we have to act in these societies, and we have to act first locally.”

Bhagwat added, "This is the traditional thought of Bharat--unity of humanity. All our leaders, at any point in time, have emphasised that too. After independence, we got the constitution, which emphasises this, but that is not happening. Because these things do not happen through politics. I'm sorry to say, but the fact is, politics has now become a game of self-interest. And where there is me and I, there is no solution. We and ours are the solution. So our experience in Bharat is that we have to start with society.”

Cause Of Floods Remain Unclear

The Chinese side of the Nepal-Tibet border recorded security footage showing individuals on the verge of fleeing just before enormous rocks, mud, and water completely devastated the region, which ended in the destruction of buildings and vehicles. One particular social media video showed what appears to be floods destroying a bridge. Another showed a house demolishing itself like a deck of cards as people screamed and fled. 

The reason for the sudden flood in Bhote Kosi River not yet being found, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology Nepal said that there was no rainfall in the Rasuwa area responsible for the flooding.

Modi Assures Nepal Of Support

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolence in a call he made to Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah regarding the human fatalities in the calamity. 

“Spoke to Prime Minister Balendra Shah and conveyed condolences on the loss of lives due to the floods in Nepal. The people of India stand in solidarity with their sisters and brothers in Nepal at this difficult time,” Modi said on social media platform X.

“India is ready to provide all possible humanitarian assistance to Nepal. Our teams are coordinating closely on rescue and relief efforts,” he added.

India Seeks Rescue Of Nationals

The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu says it is trying its best to cooperate with the Nepal authorities in order to rescue and provide relief to the affected Indian nationals; the Ministry of External affairs announced Wednesday.

Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal of Ministry of External Affairs said that it is seeking the quickest rescue and relief for all Indian people in need. 

“Embassy of India in Nepal is closely coordinating with Government of Nepal for the early rescue and relief of Indian nationals affected by today's flash floods in Nepal,” Jaiswal said.

UP Districts Put On Alert

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has communicated his concern for Nepal’s flood situation and told local authorities to be prepared for the situation.

Yogi said, "The damage caused by the devastating floods in the Bhote Koshi River in Nepal's Rasuwa region is extremely worrying. Prayers to Lord Pashupatinath for the safety of all."

"In view of the rise in water levels of the Gandak and Narayani rivers and the possibility of flooding in Uttar Pradesh's districts of Maharajganj and Kushinagar due to its impact, instructions have been issued to the local administration to remain fully vigilant and ensure necessary preparations," he added.

US Consulates Adjust Appointment Schedules

A spokesperson from the State Department said that the State Department was initiating agency-wide global training in the U.S. Embassies and consulates around the world and would adjust appointments for visa services to accommodate this training.

The State Department offered no further information about the training or its length but stated its purpose was to help consular officers identify applicants who might be dependent on the U.S. Public benefits and ensure the uniform and thorough application process for all visa applicants.

New Interview Dates Awaited

According to emails sent to immigrant visa applicants with interviews at U.S. Embassies and consulates, their scheduled appointments were being postponed with new dates to be announced.

This decision comes amid a broader immigration crackdown by the Trump administration, which has recently featured revocation of visas and denials of applications for a host of reasons, including based on political opinions and protests against Israel.

Trump Tightens Immigration Rules

This latest development, which cancels all U.S. Visa appointments,comes just a day after the administration announced its intention to introduce a new $103,265 fee for visa applications for certain foreign workers under H-1B visas - which are designated for professionals who come to the United States to work in specialty occupations.

The president has also ordered widespread deportations and raids by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The crackdown under the Trump administration has been broadly criticized by human rights advocates who charge that the policies discriminate and violate the rights to freedom of speech and due process, and create a hostile atmosphere for racial and ethnic minorities due to alleged racial profiling.

Court Challenges Administration Policy

The recent cancellation of U.S. Visa appointments worldwide follows a legal defeat for the administration last Friday, when a U.S. Judge blocked a policy that suspended the issuance of immigrant visas to applicants from certain countries, ruling that then-Secretary of State Marco Rubio overstepped his authority by instituting it.

The administration is fighting against broader legal challenges to its immigration programs, and human rights groups accuse it of targeted discrimination and violations of free speech and due process rights.

Bessent Announces Economic Onslaught

In his address, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington officially unveiled the "Operation Economic Outcast," with a goal to sever Iran's financial links worldwide and to choke off the streams of revenue to support the regime in Iran. 

Bessent said, “The US Department of the Treasury has launched Operation Economic Outcast, an unprecedented campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its neighbours.”

“During World War II, D-Day marked the historic beginning of a joint campaign with our allies to target and drive the enemy from its positions, including those in third countries. Today, in that same spirit, we are launching an economic onslaught against Iran’s financial connections around the globe. Our goal is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains this tyrannical regime,” Bessent added.

“Iran now faces a clear choice, with only two paths before them: complete global isolation and a subsistence economy, or a path to normalcy with the opportunity to rejoin the global economy. Today we are launching Operation Economic Outcast to foreclose all other options available to the Iranian regime,” he added.

Ghalibaf Rejects US Economic Pressure

Iranian parliament speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf retaliated to the US intensifying economic pressure, stating that the United States cannot expand its restriction over other countries' economic relationships with Iran.

Ghalibaf said, "Americans know that no one buys their bombast; the United States is not in an economic position to further restrict its relations with other countries." 

"Iran's trading partners, both in the media and through messages sent to us, have made it clear that they don't take these statements into account anywhere," he added.

US Targets Iranian Military Networks And Leaders

The United States targets include Iran’s oil trade, shipping network and military-backed groups such as its so-called "dark fleet" tankers and the international intermediaries who support Iran for the transportation of their oil and petrochemical products to the international market. They have also imposed sanction measures on top military officials and groups for their alleged role in enabling Iran's military operation and procurement.

“The United States will continue to disrupt, expose, and dismantle Iran’s military and proliferation activities, procurement schemes, malicious cyber operations, and illicit oil trade that sustains the regime’s malign behaviour,” the state department said.

US Claims Strait Of Hormuz Control

US sanctions on Iran did not suggest limited US military choices, Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews before departing to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. 

"No, not at all. It just means that we're seeing what happens. They have no money, they have no navy, they have no air force, they are not paying their soldiers, they're not paying their police, they have 350% inflation," Trump said.

"We're just going to sort of see what happens, and we have total control, as you know, of the border; we have total control -- if you look at the blockade, we have total control of that entire region having to do with the Strait of Hormuz," he added.

Iran Pushes Regional Security And Cooperation 

Iran's speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and the country's chief negotiator said "numerous messages" had been received from neighbors on new security structures and more cooperation.

“The United States put the security of every single one of its allies at such risk through bullying and pure disregard for their interests for the sake of Israel that they briefly saw their entire existence on the line,” Ghalibaf said.

“A homegrown, independent order is what will actually deliver peace and security,” he added. Ghalibaf's remarks came amid an intensifying standoff between Washington and Tehran. 

US Warns Iran’s Trade Partners

In recent days Trump unveiled what he described as the toughest ever sanctioned economic operation targeting Iran and promised crippling economic fallout for countries dealing in trade and finance with Tehran. Trump exhorted US allies to collaborate on isolating Iran, describing the sanctions drive as “economic D-Day,” to deprive Tehran the resources to finance operations overseas. He restated warnings Iran would never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

He said, “ANY country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences. Oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, front companies — it all needs to stop NOW. You know who you are. This will be an ECONOMIC D-DAY, and we need all of our Allies to stand with the United States of America to isolate, and defeat, the Iran threat.”

The move was revealed as tensions between the US and Iran escalated over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz oil passage. Washington has enforced its own tightening sanctions and a naval blockade of the strait, Trump said, and insisted the passage had remained open and US action had been very successful.

Canada Seeks Fair Trade Terms

Canada has halted trade talks with the US after President Donald Trump's administration made last-minute changes to its terms, which were described as "unfair" and "uneconomic". The Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, stated that the decision was made due to "recent progress" made in talks between the two countries, but that these negotiations were insufficient in achieving the country's goals of preferential treatment for its businesses, lowering US tariffs on vital sectors and safeguarding smaller and medium-sized enterprises.

He said, “Over the past 18 months, Canada’s new government has focused on building our strength at home, diversifying our partnerships abroad, and striking a fair deal with the United States." 

He added, "In recent weeks, we made important progress toward improving Canada’s position as having the best deal in the world with the US. However, that progress has not been enough to meet our objectives for Canadians. As a result, this evening, I have decided to suspend trade negotiations with the US and have directed Canada’s negotiators to return to Ottawa. They have worked hard, in good faith, to defend the interests of Canadians throughout these negotiations up until the very last minute. However, last-minute changes in the US proposed terms were unfair, uneconomic, and called into question the reliability of any deal.”

Carney said, "We have recognised from the beginning that America has changed, and that we will not return to our old relationship. Our government understood, before many, that America is altering all its trade relationships. Putting tariffs on its closest allies and charging for access to its vast market.”

US Accuses Canada Of Backtracking

United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer presented an alternative viewpoint, stating that Ottawa was responsible for bringing negotiations to an end even when they were progressing. Greer suggested that the US had provided Ottawa with the best access of any major exporter, while new requests and broken promises by the Ottawa government had skewed an equilibrium established throughout the discussions.

“Tonight, Canada declined to finalize the trade deal under the terms agreed earlier this week. Despite the US offer to Canada to receive the best treatment of any major exporter to our market, new demands and walk backs of other commitments by Canada have upended the careful balance reached in the past days,” he said.

Trump Was Hopeful Of A Deal

The announcement of the halt to talks came after President Trump's indication that a deal with Ottawa should be attainable based on his "good relationship" with Mark Carney.

Trump said, "Pretty much, I think so, we'll see. I've dealt with the Prime Minister, have a good relationship and yeah, we have to take care of our farmers. Our farmers are very important to me and the deal with Canada is moving along and we should be able to have a deal with Canada.”

Pakistan's government is preparing to challenge or seek changes to a Supreme Court order directing the transfer of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to a private hospital in Islamabad.

The move could lead to another confrontation between Pakistan's government and the judiciary, with the two sides now taking different positions on how Khan should receive medical treatment.

The development comes a day after a three-member Supreme Court bench ordered authorities to move Khan to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within 48 hours, citing concerns about his health.

Supreme Court Orders Khan's Hospital Transfer

On August 18, a three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed, along with Justices Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Ishtiaq Ibrahim, directed authorities to shift the 73-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder to the private hospital.

The court also ordered the formation of a multidisciplinary medical board to examine Khan and oversee his treatment. The board is expected to include specialists such as a physician, general surgeon, internal medicine specialist, ophthalmologist and cardiologist, in coordination with Shifa International Hospital.

Khan's personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, and his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, have also been allowed to remain involved in his medical examination and treatment.

According to the order, Khan's treatment expenses will be paid by him or his family.

The Supreme Court directed that Khan remain in the hospital until at least the next hearing, which is scheduled for September 16.

Why Is Pakistan Government Challenging the Order?

Pakistan Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has indicated that the government will seek a review or modification of the Supreme Court's decision.

The government's argument is based largely on existing prison rules. Tarar said a convicted prisoner being sent directly to a private hospital does not fit within the usual prison procedures.

According to the government's position, prisoners are generally treated either inside prison medical facilities or at government hospitals. Private hospital treatment may be considered when a medical board finds that the required treatment is not available at a government facility.

The government is therefore expected to argue that Khan should be treated at a government hospital, while doctors and specialists from Shifa International Hospital or other medical institutions could be brought in to provide expert care.

Government's Position Changes After Initial Acceptance

The latest statement represents a change from the government's initial response to the Supreme Court ruling.

On August 18, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry told the Senate that the government would follow the court's order. He cited the importance of respecting judicial independence.

However, Law Minister Tarar's latest position suggests that the government now wants the order to be reviewed or modified.

This has created the possibility of another legal dispute over Imran Khan's medical treatment, prison rules and the judiciary's role in decisions concerning incarcerated prisoners.

Concerns Over Imran Khan's Health

Imran Khan has been in prison since August 2023 after being convicted in several cases. His party, PTI, and his supporters have repeatedly alleged that the cases against him are politically motivated. Khan was removed as Pakistan's prime minister in 2022.

His health has also become a major issue for his family and supporters.

One of the key concerns reportedly involves a condition affecting his right eye. Khan has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion, a retinal condition that can potentially affect vision.

His supporters have also raised concerns about fluctuations in his blood pressure and access to family members.

The petitions before the Supreme Court seeking improved medical treatment and visitation rights were filed by Khan, his sister and others.

Fresh Government-Judiciary Clash Ahead?

The government's plan to challenge or seek modification of the hospital transfer order could add another layer to the ongoing tensions surrounding Imran Khan.

The Supreme Court has made it clear that Khan should receive medical care at Shifa International Hospital, while the government is questioning whether a private hospital transfer is permitted under prison rules.

The issue is now likely to return to the legal arena, with the government's proposed review potentially determining whether Khan is moved to the private hospital or receives treatment at a government facility.

For now, the focus remains on Khan's health, the implementation of the Supreme Court's order and the government's next legal move.

Trump has renewed his push for more stringent election rules with a focus on India’s voter identification system and the size of the country’s general elections.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that Congress must pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act to mandate voter registration and identification requirements for United States federal elections.

Trump points to India’s Voter ID System

Trump was referring to comments made by India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar regarding voter identification in the United States.

He questioned how elections could take place without voters having to show photo identification.

To underscore India’s extensive election system, Trump said that the country’s last general election involved some 646 million voters. He said less than one percent of voters used mail-in ballots and that every voter was required to have a valid photo identity document.

Trump also used India’s election system as an example and called for stronger voter verification rules in the US.

What is the SAVE America Act?

The proposed SAVE America Act would guarantee that only US citizens can register and vote in federal elections.

According to the White House, such legislation would require people registering to vote in federal elections to provide valid identification and proof of US citizenship.

The proposal also includes such measures as banning non-citizens from being added to voter registries.

The White House called it a common sense bill to protect the integrity of American elections.

Stricter Rules for Mail-In Voting

Another major part of the proposed legislation involves restrictions on mail-in ballots.

Under the proposal, mail-in voting would be limited to specific situations, including:

• Illness
• Disability
• Military service
• Travel-related circumstances

The proposed Act would also direct states to review voter rolls and remove individuals who are not eligible to vote.

Trump Rekindles Election Reform Push.

Trump has repeatedly called for stronger voter identification laws and stricter election procedures in the United States.

His remarks have once again reignited the debate over voter ID, proof of citizenship and mail-in voting.

By citing India’s large-scale election system, Trump argued that stricter voter verification can be implemented even in elections involving hundreds of millions of voters.

Now Trump’s proposed changes to the US election rules are making the SAVE America Act very much a political hot button.

The Strait of Hormuz would only be opened after the US had corrected its behaviour, Iran's politburo like executive, Supreme National Security Council, added around issuing new demands which might destabilize the negotiations of a deal for a management over the strait.

The new demands proposed by Iran's Supreme National Security Council, were unveiled through their state media, in a document signed by Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, who is a commander in the Revolutionary Guard. 

The demands said that the US must never again threaten Iran, it must permanently end the war with Iran and its armed allies in the region, the naval blockade of Iranian ports must be lifted and US troops withdrawn, the US must completely compensate the war damage Iran had been subjected to, the sanctions lifted and frozen assets 'unconditionally' released."

No comments were immediately available from the United States. 

Araghchi Signals Oman Talks

Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, on Saturday said the country was close to an agreement with Oman on navigation management across the Strait.

“The opening of the Strait is subject to other conditions, including the compensation for the US’s violations of the Islamabad Agreement,” Araghchi said.

Oman, acting as mediator, has been quiet on the negotiations and on Saturday announced that talks continue in a positive and constructive atmosphere and condemned attacks on vessels traversing the strait. 

UAE Reports Ship Attack

The UAE claimed a ship owned by state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) was attacked while traversing the strait and that Iran's missiles had been the projectile during attacks on commercial vessels. ADNOC reported no casualties from the attack. ADNOC estimated that over a dozen of their ships had been hit by missiles and drones traversing the strait after the US and Israel declared a war against Iran in February; one ship member lost their lives and twenty have been injured. The company did not disclose more about the damage or where it occurred.

Later on Saturday, the UKMTO stated that a vessel had been hit by a projectile off Oman but they were unable to confirm whether this was the same vessel referenced by ADNOC and the UAE.

The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement has been signed at the conclusion of the Makkah Summit on Joint Defence, which has been organised at Al-Safa Palace in Mecca, following almost a year of negotiations.

Mecca Summit Seals Historic Defence Pact

The trilateral agreement intends to further enhance the capacity for collective deterrence against external threats and deepen defence ties at all levels among the three countries, as reiterated in a joint statement that had been issued post summit.

It said, “The agreement is intended to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression, and stipulates that any armed attack against any one of the three states shall be regarded as an attack against them all. It further provides for the enhancement of all aspects of defence cooperation among the three states.” 

Agreement Expands Defence Cooperation

The Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs corroborated the terms of the pact in a statement released subsequently.

“Guided by the longstanding historical ties among the three States, based on the enduring bonds of brotherhood and Islamic solidarity that unite them, and building upon their shared strategic interests and longstanding defence cooperation reflecting the three States’ shared commitment to further strengthening their collective security and to promoting peace, security, and stability in the region and beyond, in pursuit of a secure and prosperous future,” said Pakistan.

Strategic Strengths Unite Three Nations

The Pakistan-Saudi Arabia-Turkey agreement is a natural development of the mutual defence pact that had been put in place by Saudi Arabia and Pakistan last year, clearly signalling that it intended to draw in additional countries into the fold.

With the participation of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, there is a unique coalition that has been put in place where all three possess distinct advantages; Saudi Arabia with its colossal financial strength, Turkey with its refined defence industry and prominent position as a leader in drone technology, and Pakistan with its nuclear capabilities as the only Islamic country to possess them along with a tested military.

Iran Criticises Newly Signed Defence Agreement

The pact has been signed amid soaring tensions as an outcome of the US-Israeli military aggression against Iran that has underlined the weaknesses that exist in the Gulf security framework and also threatened shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post that had been shared on X, Ebrahim Rezaei, a member of Iran's Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, has criticized the pact and recommended that Saudi Arabia reassess its strategy with regard to security issues.

"The Saudis should know that a paper agreement with Turkey and Pakistan will not bring them security, just as years of one-sided milking by the Americans did not bring them security. Change your policies so that you do not have to #BegForSecurity from others," he said.

MEA Rejects PoK Polls As A Sham

At the biweekly media briefing in New Delhi, Jaiswal rejected the poll exercise as an effort to create a false show of legitimacy. He said that the reality on ground is a stark contradiction of the impression that Islamabad is trying to build.

He said, "This so-called local election in POK is a complete farce. The real happening is that of public protests and wanton killings by Pakistani forces. Such hollow exercises cannot hide reality.”

India Highlights Police Crackdown And Civilian Deaths

The government stated that a number of people have been killed since June amid the security crackdown in the region. Jaiswal added that the use of force, suspension of internet access and intimidation tactics reflected the reality behind the electoral facade and asked the international community to not just look at Pakistan's public narrative on democracy and human rights in the region, but at the "reality on the ground".

He said, "Since June this year, at least 90 civilians have lost their lives in the continuing crackdown. The Pakistani Establishment has answered public discontent with bullets, blackouts, intimidation and repression, and now seeks to manufacture legitimacy through a hollow electoral exercise.” 

Amnesty International Seeks Probe Into Rights Violations

This crackdown also attracted international attention and Amnesty International called for an independent and fair inquiry into the use of force against demonstrators. Acting Director of Amnesty South Asia Isabelle Lassee added that the reports bear out the pattern of unlawful and excessive use of force against protesters by Pakistan forces.

The elections in PoK were held amid continuing protests across several areas. People organized protests even during the polling time. Demonstrations also occurred in Pakistani cities with substantial Kashmiri populations, especially Karachi, where they doubted the authenticity of the vote and demanded democratic rights and political reforms.

The police reportedly arrested several protestors including student leaders at the time of demonstrations, deepening the concerns over the election process and increasing the criticism from civil society organizations and opposition parties alike.

There are 25 Democratic-led US states that have filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s administration for the new Section 301 tariffs in response to the US Department of Commerce and India and 59 other countries but say they are also suffering from the new Section 301 tariffs.

The case is filed in the U.S. Court of International Trade and the states say the tariffs are illegal and will add costs to American families and businesses.

Why are the Tariffs Being Challenged?

The Trump administration recently imposed new tariffs ranging from 10% to 12.5% on imports of 60 countries to tackle forced labour in global supply chains and so on.

India currently faces a 10% tariff as a result of these measures. The US had earlier proposed a 12.5% tariff on Indian goods, but the rate was reduced after India updated its Foreign Trade Policy to ban imports of products made using forced labour.

But another US investigation is still under way and may result in additional tariffs on Indian exports.

What Do the 25 States Say?

The coalition of states alleges that the tariffs are illegal in fact and will act as an extra tax on consumers and businesses.New York Attorney General Letitia James, Governor Kathy Hochul, and other Democratic leaders have asked the court to strike down the tariffs.

The administration did not follow the legal processes of Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 before imposing the new duties, the lawsuit said.

States say Tariffs will increase costs.

The lawsuit argues that if tariffs get passed in the U.S. they will raise the price of imported goods and increase the costs for America’s businesses and consumers.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta said tariffs are essentially taxes that ordinary Americans should not have to pay because of what he called an unlawful economic policy.

The coalition believes the President does not have the authority to impose broad tariffs without following the legal process set out by Congress.

Questions Raised over the Investigation

And the legal challenge also challenges how the tariffs were introduced.

According to the lawsuit:

A few products were found to be linked to forced labour only. Yet tariffs were imposed on goods for a number of countries. Product exemptions weaken the government’s case. The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) failed to properly listen to public comments and submissions from affected countries, it said.The states say that these issues make the tariff policy legally flawed.

What will be the impact on India in the near future?

India is still subject to a 10 percent tariff under the new US policy.India’s modified trade rules reduced the proposed tariff but the ongoing legal battle in the United States could affect the future of these duties.Another investigation of Indian exports is still pending, so more tariffs might be imposed in the future.

The lawsuit filed by 25 Democratic-led US states has caused fresh uncertainty about Donald Trump’s Section 301 tariffs. The states allege that the tariffs were illegally enacted and will cause higher prices for the American consumers and businesses.

If the case goes through the US Court of International Trade, the outcome of the case will be relevant to India-US trade relations, global commerce and the Trump administration’s tariffs.

"The U.S.A. is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II. Despite this, we have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries, to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to. This would include the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran's nuclear threat," he said.

“Based on this request, I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL," he added.

Rubio Says Pressure Forced Iran To Negotiate

In response to Trump’s comments soon after, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran seemed to be much more interested in striking a deal, including over the nuclear programme, and the Strait of Hormuz due to the offensive measures by the US military.

In an interview with Fox News, he, meanwhile, also reiterated that Iran’s navy and air force, missile defense, launchers and weapons-manufacturing units were destroyed, while defensive capability has been ‘severely reduced’.

“And that’s changed the whole dynamic. It’s the only reason why they are now willing and in some cases, seem eager, to do a deal on denuclearisation, to do a deal on the straits. Because we are now approaching them from a position of strength, not from a position of weakness,” he said.

Iran Warns Against Any Fresh US Strike

Iran cautioned the US at the time against adventures over any prospect of planned military strikes against Iran and promised retaliation in case of any action. 

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held conversations on Saturday with senior leaders in Saudi Arabia merely a few hours after the Kuwait Military said they had successfully neutralized enemy drones that had originated from Iran. 

Trump Shifts From Military Threat To Diplomacy

Trump’s statement on the subject represented a shift; it followed an announcement a day prior where he had hinted towards another phase of extensive military action against the regime in Tehran in an attempt to bring them to negotiations.

The US and its ally Israel initiated a war on 28 February, targeting Tehran, where Trump clarified, that the war was initiated with a view to eliminating their long and short-range missile systems, denying Iran with access to nuclear weapons and ceasing its support to loyal proxy militant groups but plans and goals have repeatedly transformed in the conflict that began with the failure of a cease-fire deal earlier in June.

"I put the protesters of Azad Kashmir in the same category as India and consider them also as enemies like India," Asif said.

Viral Videos Show Pakistani Security Forces Firing

Several videos went viral on social media which showed Pakistani security forces actively firing at civilians in Mirpur and, later, taking bodies in vehicles. The brutality of Pakistani troops during the crackdown were evident in videos posted on various social media handles, including one by Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), which showed the panicked locals trying to flee. 

The videos on X were flooded with pictures and videos of fallen motorcycles in the streets. Locals had reportedly taken to the streets to demand justice for the human rights violations carried out by Islamabad in the region. 

JAAC Accuses Islamabad Of Human Rights Abuse

Most of those who were killed were affiliated to the JAAC, an organization that the Islamabad authorities banned over the reporting of human rights violations committed in the region. The group also attacked the Pakistani media for stating that the JAAC was attempting to invade Rawalakot and claim that they have not entered into anyone's house, but the land is our land which is illegally occupied.

"In Mirpur, the public has been martyred five more people on the streets, in Churhoi, the public is on the streets... except for Sarsoha Panjhera Sehnsa, from all sides, honourable people are on the streets bearing the pain of their brothers," JAAC said.

India Condemns Pakistan's Actions In PoK

India rebutted such claims, calling it "an attempt to legitimize Pakistan's illegal occupation of the territory," according to a statement by External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. Jaiswal also stated that this electoral process could not change the territorial claims of India. Along with condemning the electoral process, the MEA spokesperson stated that the protests were due to major political and economical issues of PoK and not merely due to the law and order situation.

"The current cosmetic electoral exercise is nothing but an attempt by Pakistan to camouflage its illegal occupation and hide its grave human rights violations in the region," he said.

He added, "India's position on this matter has been clear, consistent, and well known. The entire Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, including the areas currently under Pakistan's illegal and forcible occupation, are integral and inalienable parts of India.”

"As we have stated earlier, the ongoing mass protests in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir are the direct consequences of Pakistan's economic exploitation, its denial of the people's fundamental rights, and its administrative oppression," he said.

Officials said on Wednesday that the death toll has now reached 5,398. That’s 52 more than the previous day. The number of injured remains at 16,740.

What Happened In June

Search teams are still looking for people trapped under rubble. But after one month, the focus is now shifting to relief work and rebuilding homes.

There have also been 1,405 aftershocks in the past month.

Reconstruction Plans Announced

Interim President Delcy Rodriguez promised to build 4,000 homes by the end of 2025 for people who lost their houses. Around 23,000 people are homeless right now. 

Her bigger goal is 10,000 homes by 2027.]

To help with rebuilding, the IMF released $346 million from Venezuela’s reserves. The National Assembly also passed new rules to speed up construction of housing.

US Reimposes Naval Blockade on Iran

The US reinvoked a naval blockade on Iran and also escalated its air strikes there, announcing the step in response to attacks by Tehran on ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz, further damaging the deal signed to put on hold tensions between the two sides as a wider conflict brewed over the chokepoint waterway, according to reports. The blockade was put in place by the US and lifted last month following the signing of the temporary agreement. 

US Launches Fourth Day of Air Strikes

US President Donald Trump convened an all-day meeting of national security and defence personnel at the White House on Wednesday to consider broadening operations against Iran and launching attacks outside of the operations round the Strait of Hormuz, as per Axios. 

Trump’s meeting came as the US launched the fourth consecutive day of strikes targeting Iranian air defence systems, radars and positions of anti-ship missiles and drones around the Strait of Hormuz and on the southern coast of the country. The strikes are designed to diminish the capability of the Iranian forces that would prevent or hinder commercial traffic from transiting through one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. 

Iran Strikes US Bases in Bahrain and Jordan

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) stated that it struck US military positions in Bahrain and Jordan in retaliation, targeting command, control, infrastructure and military aircraft facilities. The drone and missile strikes precisely targeted key US command centers, air force facilities and military aircraft shelters containing various types of fighter jets and advanced strategic drones at the air base of al-Azraq in Jordan in response to renewed American aggression,” Iran’s official IRNA news agency quoted the IRGC as saying in a statement, citing attacks on F-15, F-16 and F-35 fighter jets and MQ-9 strategic drones.

The IRGC accused the United States of using Jordan as a launching pad for its operations against Iran. The IRGC said much of the US military operations targeting Iran were conducted by American bases in Jordan and urged Jordanian residents to expel American troops and prevent the use of its territory to attack Muslim countries.

Trump Issues Stark Warning To Iran

Trump conveyed these remarks on his Truth Social account following urgent demands by senior US authorities for Iran to formally declare that the Strait of Hormuz is open and ships traveling through the crucial passage would not be harmed. 

Trump wrote, "1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat, pronounced in many corners of the Globe, to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME!"

"Orders have already been given, and the US military is ready, willing, and able, for a one year period of time, subject to extension, to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran - praise be to Allah!" he added.

Khamenei Funeral Deepens Regional Tensions

Iran paid its tribute to its slain Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in his native land, Mashhad on Friday, over four months after his passing away due to US-Israeli attacks which had initiated the Middle Eastern conflict.

The farewell ceremony, beginning on July 3rd in Tehran, took place amidst heightened hostility between the US and Iran after the US struck at Iranian targets following what claimed to be an attack by Tehran on three civilian tankers transiting through the Strait of Hormuz, a significant advancement since both nations signed a memorandum of understanding in Switzerland, intended to bring about an end to the war. Tehran has effectively sealed the strategic waterway of Hormuz since March as a retort against the US-Israeli bombings that launched the war in the region. 

Trump Rejects Assassination Intelligence Claims

Trump's comments echoed ones made during an interview with the New York Post, wherein he said that he has set in place an order for an unimaginable military retaliation if his life was to be taken. Trump further denied receiving any new intelligence about an impending assassination attempt and debunked claims that Israel has found out new information regarding an Iranian plot to kill him.

Pakistan Urges Both Nations To Honour Pact

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan has called upon Iran and the United States to honour the pact they both established last month, while the two countries are in a heightened state of tension. He voiced his deep concern over the recent events and underlined the need to immediately reinstate peace and security in the region by addressing Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the phone, and stressing that the two parties must adhere to the agreed provisions of the memorandum, as per officials of Pakistan.

Hasina has been living in exile in India since August 2024, after the army chief advised her to leave due to weeks of violent protests that had a significant support of Islamist factions, turning into a security concern.

Exile Leader Sheikh Hasina Cites Threats To Life

In a near one-hour-long telephone interview with Reuters, Hasina revealed that she, alongside other prominent Awami League leaders, had plans to be in Bangladesh around December and turn themselves in to the courts.

“They may arrest me on my return, they may even kill me. Still, I have to go. My party leaders and workers are being subjected to tremendous repression. If death comes, I want it to come on my own soil, where my parents are buried and where their blood was shed," she said.

Her announcement to Reuters marks the first time Hasina provided a specific timeframe for her return, and importantly, disclosed that other senior party members would accompany her and surrender. 

Student Protests Ended Hasina's Rule

Hasina was compelled to leave Bangladesh in August 2024 following a massive student uprising that terminated her two decades as prime minister spanning across several terms. She was subsequently granted refuge in India by the government in New Delhi, a move that notably soured relations between the two nations.

Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal later imposed a death sentence on Hasina in absentia in November 2025 for her role in the crackdown on anti-government protests, a charge she consistently refuted.

India Reviews Bangladesh Extradition Request

India's Ministry of External Affairs has indicated that it is reviewing the extradition request from Bangladesh, while emphasizing the need for productive engagement with the authorities in Dhaka.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "The request is being examined as part of ongoing judicial and internal legal processes. We will continue to engage constructively on the issue with all stakeholders... I would like to emphasise that the External Affairs Minister reiterated India's desire to engage constructively with the new government and further strengthen bilateral ties," in April.

"Both sides agreed to explore proposals to deepen the partnership through relevant bilateral mechanisms. Follow-up official meetings are expected soon, and views were also exchanged on regional and global issues of mutual interest," he added.

Return May Reshape Bangladesh Political Landscape

Her potential return could intensify the political landscape in Bangladesh as the government aims to establish stability after two years of turmoil. Conversely, it may help mend the strained relations with India, which deteriorated considerably following New Delhi’s decision to provide refuge to Hasina.

Sheikh Hasina became a towering political figure in Bangladesh for half a century after being thrust into the public eye after her father, a leader in the nation’s independence, and many family members, were assassinated in a military coup. 

The student protests of 2024 put an end to her 20-year tenure as prime minister. Earlier in the day, Modi met Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and concluded a summit to improve the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) with 18 major outcomes in energy, defence, critical technology and trade.

"Held wide-ranging discussions with Prime Minister Albanese in Melbourne this afternoon. The India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of 2022 has continuously expanded the scope of our cooperation. We have now decided to accelerate work on the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation, with unprecedented progress over the past few years," Modi wrote on social media platform X.

Trump Claims Iran Targets His Life

President Donald Trump said Iran wants to kill him and is on 'every list'. He said, “They want to take out the US leader, me. I'm on every list. I saw a thing this morning, I'm on every single one of their lists. And so far, I guess I've been a little bit lucky. But that maybe doesn't last very long."

Even at the funeral of former Iran supreme leader Ali Khamenei, mourners called for Trump's killing as well as that of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.’ Posters calling for the killing of Trump and Netanyahu, and even chants similar to them were seen around the Grand Mosalla in Tehran, where Khamenei's funeral was held. 

US Strikes Over 80 Iranian Sites

Trump's statement comes just hours after a new round of U.S. Military strikes on Iran targeting more than 80 sites. The US said it launched the new strikes in retaliation for Iranian attacks against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. Central Command said, “U.S. Central Command forces completed a new round of offensive strikes against Iran, July 7, hitting over 80 targets with precision munitions as an immediate response to Iran’s latest attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz” in a statement.

“U.S. forces struck Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps [IRGC] small boats in and near the strait to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking international commerce flowing through the international trade corridor,” it said.

IRGC Claims Retaliation Against US Assets

The strikes targeted coastal bases and civilian facilities in the southern Iranian provinces of Hormuzgan and Mahshar. Some of them also hit the Bandar Mashahr port in southwest Iran, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said. In a statement, the IRGC warned that it had responded by targeting US assets in neighbouring countries as sirens could be heard in neighboring Bahrain and Kuwait.

Iran's Foreign Ministry said that the United States had violated the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding on the cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, and part of the MoU which includes the respect for the sovereignty of states. The Ministry also denounced the US Department of Treasury's decision to revoke waivers allowing Iran to sell oil and collect revenues for 60 days.

The visit intends to bolster the strategic and comprehensive relationship. PM Narendra Modi was accorded a ceremonial reception at Jakarta, where he met his counterpart before heading for official engagements. .

Indonesia To Acquire Astra Missile, Expand BrahMos Arsenal

In the defence sector, Indonesia is set to acquire India's indigenous Astra missiles from Delhi. This follows successful demonstrations of Indian missiles during India's Operation Sindoor. 

Delhi is all set to boost its cooperation with Jakarta in the defence space. Indonesia also intends to purchase more BrahMos missile systems, as well as coastal defence batteries, to enhance maritime defence capability.

Indian EVM Expertise To Aid Indonesia

India will offer support in development of Indonesian-specific Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). India has long been using EVMs to conduct its general elections since as early as 2004.

Indonesia will not be the first country to signal its interest in purchasing or co-operating in development of EVMs with India. Bhutan currently uses Indian machines to hold polls and some parts of Namibia and Nepal also use these systems.

UPI Integration To Boost Digital Payment Links

The PM also revealed that Unified Payments Interface (UPI) from India would soon be integrated with Indonesia's payment system. This move comes after India’s continuous effort to expand its digital public infrastructure across the world. 

President Prabowo Subianto also confirmed the expansion of cross-border QR payment linking and that India and Indonesia will collaborate on developing the linkage. Prime Minister Modi further announced a decision of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore to establish a campus in Indonesia, as part of an attempt to further collaboration and growth in management education, skills and entrepreneurship in the region.

Critical Minerals Partnership To Strengthen

To build resilient supply chains for critical minerals, India plans to invest in manufacturing steel, nickel and rare earth permanent magnets in Indonesia. These will aid both countries' strategic and industrial goals.

In terms of strategic connectivity, both countries also intend to co-develop Sabang Port, located strategically next to Malacca Straits and just a hundred miles from India's Great Nicobar port project, which will help enhance both countries’ connectivity through maritime routes and deepen cooperation on security.

US Seeks Diplomacy Amid Regional Tensions

The Washington Post reported, the U.S. administration feared a killing would upset peace talks and resume hostilities.

The Washington Post said the warnings highlight increasing disagreement between the United States and Israel over the war aims. Initially, the two nations both supported regime change in Iran following the outbreak of war in late February. But U.S. Officials determined that Iran’s political and military structure is likely to stay in power and switched their focus to a negotiated agreement. 

New York Times Details Fresh Israeli Threat

In addition, the New York Times stated that the United States believed that Israel might target the two Iranian individuals following an April 8 ceasefire and that the message was sent to Iran via intermediaries in the region. According to the newspaper, Ghalibaf received a warning that Israel may be targeting him as he traveled back from Islamabad on April 12th following a discussion with J.D. Vance. 

The newspaper reports that following the warning of an Israeli attack, Ghalibaf's aircraft made an emergency landing in Mashhad before he traveled by land. Furthermore, the New York Times cited the United States that any Israeli plot to kill Ghalibaf or Araghchi would likely undermine the peace accord and lead to the escalation of fighting.

Iran Warns Against Military Escalation During Funeral

Khatam al-Anbiya commander Ali Abdollahi threatened that any Israeli and U.S. miscalculations during the weeklong funeral of the former Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, will result in severe and regrettable responses. 

"We warn the enemies of Iran, especially the US and the Zionist regime, to avoid any miscalculation and to think about the harsh retaliation our armed forces would make to any threat and aggression against our country,” he said.

The former Supreme Leader of Iran's funeral services will begin on Saturday. This would be the biggest funeral in the Islamic Republic's history, with ceremonies in Tehran, Qom, Mashhad, Najaf, and Karbala. The ceremony was originally scheduled for April but was moved back due to the ongoing battle with the US.

This alliance focuses on creating strong energy frameworks by collaborating on strategic petroleum reserves, building strong supply chains and fostering robust maritime energy transport.

Modi Calls Japanese PM His 'Younger Sister'

The pact between India's Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, comes during the visit of the Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi to New Delhi where she engaged in bilateral discussions with PM Narendra Modi. 

Takaichi is on a trip to India, where both nations look forward to bolstering their economic ties and partnerships. During a joint conference, PM Modi proudly labelled PM Takaichi his younger sister.

"Your Excellency, and 'meri chhoti behen' (my younger sister) Prime Minister Takaichi, delegates of the two countries, members of the media, Namaskar! Konnichiwa," Modi said.

"I am delighted to welcome Prime Minister Takaichi on her first visit to India for the India-Japan Annual Summit. She is also Japan's first female Prime Minister, and a visionary and popular leader. Furthermore, she hails from Japan's Nara Prefecture, a very important centre of shared Buddhist heritage of India and Japan," Modi added.

He also added, "Today, both India and Japan are among the world's largest economies. A free, prosperous, and rules-based Indo-Pacific is our shared priority. As the region's largest democratic and market economies, we have undertaken several significant initiatives today. Together, these will pave the way for peace, stability, and progress across the entire region.”

Countries Aim For Stronger Energy Supply Chains

Both leaders described the countries as leading regional powerhouses and the two largest energy-consuming countries in the Asian continent, stressing the importance of co-ordination to secure stable energy in a challenging global environment.

The collaboration framework includes strategies for enhancing energy supply chain efficiency and bolstering the overall resilience and affordability of energy for both countries. Areas of focus for cooperation include strategic oil stockpiling, market stability, enhancing the reliability and security of energy transport networks, establishing stronger institutional partnerships between organisations in the two nations, and the regular exchange of ideas on pertinent policies.

Focus On Strategic Petroleum Reserves

Both nations will focus on sharing insights regarding the operational strategies for managing national petroleum reserves, inclusive of managing industry-held stock reserves. 

In addition, knowledge regarding the operation of such reserves will be exchanged, alongside methods of coordinating with international oil producers to create robust emergency plans, including strategies for destabilizing markets in response to supply disruptions.

Sea Transport Partnership For Steady Supply

Recognising that sea transport is crucial for efficient and safe energy delivery, the partnership includes boosting cooperation in the movement of oil and natural gas across waterways. 

The partners will investigate options for collective ventures, like the shared funding of different points in the sea-based energy transportation pipeline, aimed at creating a system that is more secure, proficient, and self-reliant.

India Backs Dialogue to Resolve Conflicts

PM Modi expressed his pleasure at the breakthrough between Tehran and Washington, restating India's long-held policy that the solution for all problems must be found through talks and dialogue.

He said, "Spoke with the President of Iran, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, on the recent developments in West Asia. Welcomed the progress made in the negotiations and expressed hope that continued efforts will lead to lasting peace in the region. Reiterated the importance of freedom of navigation in the Hormuz Strait for India and the World,” on social media platform X.

Freedom of Hormuz Navigation Stressed

Modi also highlighted the necessity for sustained efforts to achieve enduring peace and stability in West Asia. Underscoring India’s concerns regarding global trade, Modi emphasized the imperative to preserve freedom of navigation in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global commerce and energy supplies. 

Iran Invites Modi for Khamenei Funeral

Prior to this, Iran had extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to attend the funeral services of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had been killed in a US-Israeli strike amid the ongoing conflict. 

India is scheduled to be represented at the funeral ceremonies by Bihar Governor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita. Iranian authorities announced that the public farewell ceremony would commence at 6 a.m. on July 4 at the Imam Khomeini Grand Prayer Grounds in Tehran. 

US-Iran Talks Face Renewed Military Tensions

The conversation took place at a critical juncture for the current US-Iran negotiations. Washington and Tehran had signed a memorandum of understanding, which stipulated the lifting of Iran’s restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz, a withdrawal of US military assets from the region, sanctions relief, and a 60-day timeframe for resolving outstanding issues concerning Iran's nuclear program.

This was followed by a formal meeting between the US, Iran, and mediators Qatar and Pakistan in Switzerland on June 21 and 22. However, that agreement came under strain after US forces launched airstrikes on Iranian military targets, citing Tehran's attacks on commercial shipping in the strait, including a drone attack on an oil tanker. Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps retaliated by striking US military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait.

US President Donald Trump issued a warning of further military action if the strikes continued, while Iranian officials stated that any further US action could lead to the complete cessation of negotiations.

The honour recognised PM Modi’s deep engagement towards sustainable development and climate change mitigation. It paid tribute to his support to climate resilience, global cooperation and the sustainable use of oceans, reflecting the strengthening relationship between India and Seychelles.

Modi Dedicates Award to Climate Action

The Prime Minister dedicated the honour to the nations that are endeavouring to protect the environment and counter global climate change.

He said, "Humbled to receive the 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon' award. I humbly accept this title with honor and dedicate it to all other countries that are struggling against the challenges of climate change and that consider the protection of the environment their responsibility toward future generations.”

"This is an urgent challenge that we need to overcome together. The sun, in its way, stands ready to do whatever is necessary to make the world greener and more sustainable. This is reflected in our various domestic policies, with the motto of the LiFe Mission (a vision for a sustainable future) and global efforts such as the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and others," he added.

Shared Vision Strengthens Bilateral Cooperation

The Seychelles President recalled the 50th year of diplomatic relations between the two nations and reiterated the shared geography, history and collective approach towards the Indian Ocean region would anchor the two countries' relations. 

This would contribute to the implementation of the Joint Vision for Sustainability, Economic Growth and Security through Enhanced Linkages which the two leaders adopted early this year and was aimed to act as a framework for sectoral co-operation. 

PM to Attend Golden Jubilee Celebrations

PM Modi will join the Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations of Seychelles as the Guest of Honour on Monday. The two countries, which share historical and people to people ties, would also use the visit for PM Modi's address to the Seychelles National Assembly as well as interaction with the members of the Indian diaspora. Seychelles, being a major maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean region, represents a strategic component in India's Vision MAHASAGAR.

India Yet to Decide on Khamenei's Funeral Invite

As the invitation was handed over to the Indian embassy on Tuesday, India is yet to accept or reject the invite or decide the composition of the team that will represent India at the event. 

Modi's last visit to Tehran was in May 2016 when he met Khamenei and inked a trilateral pact with Afghanistan and Iran to build Chabahar port.

Funeral Ceremonies Scheduled From July 4–9

Khamenei was killed in an airstrike on the compound housing his office in Tehran on February 28, the same day that the US-backed war on Iran initiated. The funeral ceremonies, to be held across various Iranian cities from July 4 to July 9, are expected to bring in millions of mourning Iranians and foreign dignitaries. Details emerging indicate that the body of Khamenei will lie in state at Tehran's Grand Mosalla complex from July 4 to 5 for people to pay their final tributes. 

The funeral procession is slated to take place on July 6 and public holidays will be observed across Tehran on this day as the city prepares to bid adieu to its Supreme Leader. 

"The farewell ceremony and prayers for the martyred leader's body will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 4th and 5th, in Tehran's Grand Mosalla, and the funeral will be held on Monday, July 6th, and Tehran province will be off for these three days," IRGC commander Hassan Hassanzadeh said.

Massive Turnout Anticipated Across Iran

The schedule for the funeral rites, which had been speculative since the news of the Supreme Leader's death surfaced on Feb 28, has finally been confirmed by Iranian authorities, with state media initially putting the date sometime in late June before officializing July.

Iranian officials expect between 10 to 20 million people to attend Khamenei's funeral ceremonies in Tehran, Mashhad, and Qom and possibly, setting an attendance record from the 10 million people present at the 1989 funeral of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic.

Misri Signed Condolence Book in March

India has not publicly condemned Khamenei's killing by the US and Israel on Feb 28. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited the Embassy of Iran in New Delhi and signed the condolence book on March 5.

PM Modi and S Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, were also in touch with Iran during the recent clashes in West Asia.

New Delhi’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, was speaking at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on ‘Bridging the Implementation Gap: UNSC Resolutions and Maintenance of International Peace and Security’.

India Calls Pakistan’s Remarks Unwarranted

India retorted sharply at the United Nations Security Council after Pakistan raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir at an informal meeting, calling its neighbour’s remarks “unwarranted” and emphasizing that the former state remains an internal matter of India.

“I also refer to the unwarranted remarks made by the representative of Pakistan. It is incredible that a co-chair expected to be balanced and unbiased in conduct has chosen to politicise this forum,” Harish said.

“I would only like to stress, for brevity of time, that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is a matter strictly internal to India. It has always been, is, and will remain so,” he added.

India Seeks Review of UNSC Mandates

He also called for a review of UNSC mandates as part of the UN80 initiative that aims to study the working of the global organisation in its 80th year. Mr Harish proposed reviewing provisions of chapter VI of the UN Charter, which deals with mechanisms to settle international disputes peacefully.

“India would like to emphasise that at a time when member states are undertaking mandate implementation review under the UN80 framework for all UN General Assembly mandates in order to achieve efficiencies, there is no reason why UN Security Council mandates should be outside the purview of such UN80 frameworks”, he said.

Pakistan and China Host Informal Meeting

Mr Harish's assertion came after Pakistan Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, raised the J&K issue in his intervention during the meeting convened by Pakistan and China's permanent missions to the UN.

Arria-formula meetings are informal and confidential consultations at the Security Council and serve to bring together Security Council members to facilitate the exchange of views in a flexible, less structured format, which are named after former Venezuelan Ambassador Diego Arria, who introduced the practice in 1992.

India Reiterates No Mediation on Kashmir Issue

Bilateral ties have been consistently marred by the Kashmir issue with India ruling out any external interference or mediation on it, reiterating that the entirety of the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh is and shall always remain an integral and inalienable part of India.

Trump Claims Meloni Begged for Photo

An Italian media outlet quoted Trump telling that Meloni "begged" for a picture. He also said that he felt sorry for her.

"She's probably happy I talked to her. I didn't have to talk to her. She begged me to take a picture with her. She wanted a picture with me so badly. I wouldn't have taken it, but I felt sorry for her," Trump said.

The public spat represents a significant turn for the two leaders who had appeared to set aside recent tensions following last week's G7 summit in France.

Italian PM says Italy Never Begs

Meloni - who leads a nationalist party with a strong appeal among religious Catholics - expressed dismay at Trump's rhetoric. 

“Donald Trump's statements are completely made up, I'm frankly appalled. I don't know why the President of the United States behaves this way with his own allies; after all, it's not the first time it's happened," she said.

"I can only say it's a shame that he doesn't show the same determination with the enemies of the West, with the enemies of the United States, with leaderships toward which he instead proves much more accommodating. However, one thing he must remember: I and Italy never beg," she added.

Foreign Minister Cancels US Visit

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, scheduled to visit the US for business and meetings this weekend, called Trump's alleged remarks offensive and canceled the trip. 

"The serious and offensive words of President Trump towards Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni offend all of Italy. For this reason, I have decided to cancel my visit to the United States scheduled for the next 21 and 22 June," Tajani said.

West Asia War Widens Political Divide

The public dust-up underscores recent cracks in Meloni and Trump's relationship, which have opened up since the escalation of the war in West Asia. After Pope Francis, leader of the Catholic Church, called for a truce, Trump lambasted the Vatican and, in a jab aimed at European countries that have refused to engage in the fighting, said that leaders expected the US to take care of everything. The Italian prime minister publicly slammed Trump's criticism of the Pope, saying it was unacceptable.

Macron Bids Farewell in Hindi

After his humorous experiment with different languages, the French president moved smoothly back into English to express thanks to PM Modi for his visit.

He said, "Priye mitr Narendra Modi. Thank you for your visit. Thank you for our friendship. It was a very fruitful visit. France loves you. We are looking forward to seeing you again soon, in February. Jai Hind.”

His heartfelt send-off came after a two-day itinerary at the G7 Summit and bilateral interactions, where PM Modi engaged in crucial discussions and meetings with leaders.

France Reaffirms Support for India

Mr Macron highlighted France's continued commitment towards India's economic progress and national aspirations, while also extending the support for India in the global arena. 

A notable engagement was on June 14 where PM Modi and President Macron met at the historic Villa Kerylos in Nice, marking their first one-on-one interaction since the Indo-France ties were elevated to a "Special Global Strategic Partnership".

Leaders Discuss Defence and Cooperation

Both leaders reviewed advancements in various sectors, including defense, technology, space and economy, with an agreement to intensify collaborative efforts on defense platforms and technologies.

They also explored deeper cooperation in space initiatives such as human spaceflight and greater private sector participation in the sector. Earlier, in his address at the inauguration of Bharat Innovates 2026, President Macron had formally felicitated PM Modi on becoming India’s longest continuously-serving elected Prime Minister, lauding his leadership and the strength of Indian democracy. 

Macron also spoke of France’s faith in India’s innovation drive and the unique benefits it gained from the country’s demographic dividend and rich talent pool.

Trump Calls Modi a Tough Leader

The US President Donald Trump had said that PM Modi is "a killer and a tough trader" after the bilateral meeting. Trump said he is a "great friend" of India and called the PM a highly respected man in Washington.

"As long as I am President, they (India) have a great friend in the White House. Everyone here loves India and they have tremendous respect for this man," he said.

Trump Assures Support in Crisis

Trump praised the defence relationship between India and the US, and called for support specifically for the PM Modi-led nation in times of conflict.

"I think it is a great relationship. If they were attacked, we would be there to help them. We don't have a contract, but if they are attacked and he (PM Modi) is the leader, we are going to be there to help. If anybody attacks that man, we are going to be there. If there is another leader, I don't know about that, but if they are attacked and he is the leader, we are going to help", Trump said.

Modi Raises Safety of Indian Seafarers

PM Modi said, " In the world of maritime trade, hundreds of thousands of Indian seafarers are performing their duties across global maritime trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, contributing heavily to global progress. Their safety is of the utmost importance to us," after his meeting with Trump.

"I am confident that the issue of seafarers' safety will receive the highest priority during the implementation of this agreement," he added.

PM Modi’s remarks were made after last week's deadly US attack on three vessels that contained Indian sailors off the coast of Oman. Three Indian sailors died in the attack.

Leaders Review Bilateral and Global Issues

The interaction between the leaders took place while the leaders had convened for the traditional gathering of world leaders hosted by the French President Emmanuel Macron. Photos released from the G7 summit show Indian Prime Minister Modi greeting US President Trump with a smile, and then taking seats next to the President, among the other world leaders present. 

The interaction between the leaders is seen as one that would give the duo an opportunity to reassess how the relations between India and the USA has developed and talk about the regional and international problems which the two countries have in common. 

Trump Declares Peace Deal Complete

Trump announced on his Truth Social platform the agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran was now complete and thanked everyone involved for their hard work.

“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorise the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorise the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!" Trump said.

India Welcomes End of Conflict

India has welcomed the understanding that the US and Iran have reached over stopping the Middle East conflict.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I welcome the understanding reached between the United States and Iran on ending the conflict in West Asia, which has caused serious economic disruption across the world and led to loss of life in many countries", in a post on social media platform X.

Iran Confirms Ceasefire and Blockade End

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said that the agreement with the US includes a cessation of fighting on all fronts and an immediate lifting of US naval blockade on Iran's ports.

“Based on the agreements reached, the war and military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, will end immediately and permanently as of tonight, and in addition, the naval blockade against Iran will end immediately and completely," the statement said.

It added, "Negotiations for a final agreement will be postponed until after the other party has fulfilled its obligations under the Memorandum of Understanding. The Islamic Republic of Iran appreciates the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Government of Qatar. Peace be upon you, God's mercy and blessing.”

Tehran Expresses Deep Mistrust of US

The Iranian foreign ministry announced that Tehran still harboured "deep mistrust" towards Washington after the framework deal reached between the two to end the war. It further said the US will release Iran's blocked foreign funds and also compensate Iran for damages caused during the war under the deal.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said, “Unfortunately, it must be acknowledged that Iran’s deep mistrust of the United States stems from the long history of wrongdoing by American leaders.”

“The release of the frozen Iranian assets as well as the reparations for damages are two essential points. The American side has committed to taking measures in both areas,” he added.

In a post on Instagram Zach Lincoln shared two painful experiences that changed their lives forever. One was a school shooting scare involving their children and the other was a huge medical bill despite having health insurance.

School Shooting Scare Changed Everything

Lincoln recalled the day they were shopping at IKEA and got an emergency message from their daughters preschool. The message said there was a shooter on the school grounds. Their daughters were locked inside a closet for safety. Thankfully both children were safe.. Lincoln admitted that the incident had a deep emotional impact on the family.

They were safe but we were not the same after that he wrote. This experience made the couple question their familys future in the United States.

Trump Said Mojtaba Khamenei Backed Deal

Trump claimed that the Supreme Leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei had approved the pact. The agreement has been accepted because we have already taken a pounding, stated the US president about Iran's acceptance of the deal.

He asserted that the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route to transport global oil shipments and on which Iran claimed to have imposed a block, will be re-opened after the signing.

The development comes following Trump's threat to escalate the conflict further with a more vigorous bombing of Iran and seizing control of the oil production including capturing Iran's Kharg Island oil facility, an oil rich area of the country.

Iran Says Accord Still Under Review

Iran said that it is still to decide final ratification of the proposed accord on an end to war in West Asia, after a deal seemed within grasp and US President Donald Trump canceled his threats of an air strike against it.

According to officials in Teheran, the US President's announcement comes even as a proposed deal on ending war in the region is still being finalized by various decision making bodies of the country.

As per Iranian state media, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei had been quoted saying that news of a deal being signed is a speculation.

"We have not reached a final conclusion on this matter. This is a very important issue that is currently being reviewed by the relevant decision-making bodies," he said.

India Protests Over Ship Attacks

Meanwhile, India said that it has lodged a protest to the United States for a series of three attacks on ships carrying Indian crewmen by the US military off the coast of Oman in the past four days that left three Indians dead.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "We attach high importance to the welfare and well-being of our seafaring community. When this particular attack on the ship Settebello occurred, we lodged a strong protest with the American side." 

"We summoned the US Charge d'Affaires and he was conveyed our deepest concern over the ongoing incidents of attacks. We also registered our strong protest," he added.

Addressing the Kultaranta Talks at Finland on 'Emerging Powers and the New Geopolitical Competition', Jaishankar rebutted a journalist who said India was "too sympathetic to Russia" and "too willing to buy oil from Russia".

India Buys Oil on Cost and Supply

Explaining India's stand, he said energy decisions are based on cost and supply realities.

"I'll make two observations. I buy oil based on cost and availability. So at that point of time, much of the oil available in the market was Russian because Europeans were essentially buying oil from the Middle East, which was our traditional supplier. So circumstances pushed us in a certain direction," Jaishankar said.

Jaishankar Raises Concerns Over Arms Sales

He has also highlighted Europe's inconsistency with regard to India's security concerns and emphasized that it was arm exports to the region which undermined India's security for long.

“No European country has been attacked with Indian weapons. I wish I could say that for Europe weapons vis-a-vis India," Jaishankar said.

"Europe sells weapons, which are used to attack India. Not just now but for many years. We Indians have never done anything to endanger Europe. I think that's a reasonable point," he added.

US Encouraged India to Buy Russian Oil

Jaishankar highlighted that in 2022, even the US was conscious of the essential part that India played in balancing the global economy. He reiterated that the US had encouraged New Delhi to purchase crude oil from Russia to stabilize the energy markets and prevent an inflationary meltdown.

“At that time, the US directly asked India to buy Russian oil to stabilize the oil market. We buy oil based on cost and availability," he said.

“People should also remember that, at that time, the United States specifically asked India to buy Russian oil to help stabilize global markets. After first imposing tariffs on us last year for buying Russian oil, the US then lifted its sanctions on Russian oil. Let’s not pretend there is some great principle involved here,” Jaishankar added.

Energy Security Remains India's Priority

The Union Minister asserted that India's energy decisions are based on its self-interest and energy security needs and reiterated that Russia is currently the largest supplier of oil to India whereas the United States is its largest supplier of natural gas.

India has consistently justified its imports of discounted Russian crude on the grounds of energy security and affordable prices despite Western sanctions on Russia.

The statement was made by Nepal's Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal after recent remarks by Prime Minister Balen Shah triggered political debate. Shah had suggested that China and the United Kingdom could have a role in addressing the long-standing border issue between Nepal and India.

Nepal Reaffirms Bilateral Approach

Speaking in Parliament, Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal emphasized that Nepal remains committed to resolving all border-related matters through diplomatic dialogue and negotiations with India.

He stated that the Nepal-India border dispute is a bilateral issue and should be addressed based on historical treaties, agreements, and maps while maintaining the strong relationship between the two neighboring countries.

India has also reiterated that all issues related to the India-Nepal border should be resolved directly between the two countries.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that there is no role for any third party in bilateral matters involving India and Nepal.

He added that nearly 98 percent of the India-Nepal border has already been demarcated, while a few sections remain unresolved due to geographical changes and localized border concerns.

Taliban Official Condemn Latest Strike

The chief spokesperson of the Taliban, Zabihullah Mujahid, stated that the recent air raids were directed at Khost, Kunar and Paktika provinces of Afghanistan and they have claimed the lives of 11 children, one woman, and one elderly man. He then proceeded to share images of some of the children who were victims of the most deadly Pakistani airstrikes witnessed in weeks. These strikes had been carried out when their victims were deep in their sleep; they never stood a chance to escape the bombardments. 

"Last night, the Pakistani military once again violated Afghanistan's airspace and bombed civilian homes in the provinces of Kunar, Khost, and Paktika," Mujahid said on social media platform X.

He added, "As a result of these attacks, 11 children, one woman, and one elderly man were killed, while 14 other women and children were injured.”

Deadliest Strike Since Border Clashes

This latest airstrike by Pakistan is the deadliest in a long time after the relative peace at the border post fights between the two countries in February when conflict took off between Pakistan and Afghanistan with great intensity along the border and unprecedented airstrikes conducted by Pakistan on Afghanistan.

These allegations come at a time when regional tensions are at an all time high including a renewed outbreak of conflicts between the US and Iran in the Middle East along with rising tensions in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir where riots have broken out between protestors and the police.

Pakistan Cites Militants Behind Operations

Previous statements by the Pakistani authorities stated that operations on Afghan soil were intended towards militant factions causing the assaults on Pakistan and that innocent lives were not deliberately targeted.

Pakistan claims its strikes inside Afghan territory is merely a response to the Afghan government of the Taliban providing safe haven for Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) responsible for fatal assaults on Pakistan within their territory which resulted in death of hundreds.

Taliban Rule Continues to Strain Relations

The bilateral ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan were strained as the Taliban took control of the Afghan territory in 2021. The Pakistani authorities had accused Afghanistan of hosting terrorist groups responsible for these deadly attacks, especially their own Pakistani Taliban or TTP, who despite their alliances and connection with the Afghan Taliban's rule over the country since the withdrawal of the U.S. Troops have not been found in possession by their nation.

JAAC Ban Leads to Unrest in PoK

The local government (LGA) recently banned JAAC on anti-terrorism grounds and had a disagreement about reserving 12 legislative seats for Kashmiri refugees, causing riots in Rawalakot and its neighbouring areas in PoK. 

The demonstrators rail against rising inflation, the cost of electricity and a lack of basic goods. Pakistani government deployments of paramilitaries have stemmed the flow of conflict which has led to bloody conflicts and deaths of many. 

Many people were wounded in the fighting between demonstrators and security forces at Rawalakot, inviting calls for an independent inquiry and condemning the deaths. 

HRCP Seeks Independent Investigation

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) found it alarming that tempers had flared in the area with reports of casualties. The Commission called for immediate de-escalation and an impartial inquiry into the deaths and injuries, noting that banning public movements inevitably threatens to shrink the political arena and that the request for alteration of the constitution should be addressed by constitutional processes, representative means, and democratic principles. 

India Criticises Pakistan Over Human Rights Issues

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) criticized the Pakistani government over alleged “brutality” on people in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and called for the international community to take Pakistan to task over alleged human rights violations in the region. 

"We continue to see in this context, a pattern of fake news and videos emanating from Pakistan. It is a desperate attempt by Pakistan to cover-up its own failings and deflect attention away from its human rights abuses," MEA said.

"There are reports of severe police brutality in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir in which several protestors have been killed and many injured. We hope the international community will hold Pakistan accountable for its misdeeds and abuses," the ministry added.

Kuwait Takes Diplomatic Action Against Iran

Two Iranian embassy officials have been ordered to leave Kuwait within 24 hours after a strike on a Kuwait airport, killing one and wounding several dozens of others.

According to a statement issued by the foreign ministry, deputy foreign minister Hamad Suleiman Al-Mashaan summoned the Islamic republic's chargé d'affaires in Kuwait, Hamed Hamid Yaqoubi Far, and handed him an official protest memorandum against the continued attacks launched by Iran. He also told him of Kuwait's decision to downsize Iran's embassy staff, designating two embassy members "persona non grata" and demanding that they leave the country within 24 hours.

India Confirms Death of Its Citizen

The foreign ministry of India condemned the attack and announced that the person killed was an Indian national.

"We condemn the attack on the Kuwait International Airport today in which an Indian national has died and several of our nationals are injured. Since the onset of the conflict in West Asia, we have strongly urged that civilian population and civilian infrastructure must not be targeted. We again call upon parties to cease such attacks," MEA said.

"We offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Our Embassy is extending all possible assistance to those injured. We remain in close contact with local authorities for the welfare of Indian nationals. Indian Missions and Posts across the region are on alert and continue to proactively support our community," it added.

Iran Announces Mourning for Khamenei

Iranian officials announced that a three-day public mourning will be held for former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on the opening day of the U.S.-Israel war against Iran according to state news reports.

Tehran deputy mayor, Mohammad Amin Tavakoli-Zadeh laid out the logistical plans of multi-city mournings, explaining that the scheduled processions are planned to be carried out in a variety of prominent city locations such as the capital Tehran, as well as the holy cities of Qom and Mashhad. 

According to Mr. Tavakoli-Zadeh, the major ceremonies in the capital city of Tehran are to continue for more than 24 hours, and city officials are currently working on the infrastructure to handle a total of 20 million citizens in the capital alone.

Trump Slams Netanyahu Over Lebanon Attacks

According to sources by Axios, Trump said Netanyahu, “You’re f****** crazy. What are you doing? You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your a**. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this.”

The unprecedented discussion took place following the Israeli military ordered strikes on Hezbollah in Beirut's southern suburbs and broadened its operations in southern Lebanon which had sparked concern of an escalating regional conflict and fresh warnings from Tehran.

This escalation between the two leaders came after they escalated on Monday after Netanyahu and the defense minister Israel Katz ordered strikes against areas within Beirut's southern Dahiyeh district controlled by Hezbollah in response to alleged multiple violations by the militants of a ceasefire and attacks on Israeli territory. The decision sent residents fleeing from the southern Beirut suburbs for fears of air strikes.

UAE Launches Probe Into Attack

The UAE did not directly blame any particular country, nor has any particular group taken responsibility for the attack. Investigation to find out the origin of drones is ongoing. The Defence Ministry said that two drones were intercepted and another struck an electrical generator near the nuclear power plant, the ministry added it was from the 'western border' without further explanation of where this was. According to Abu Dhabi Media Office the electrical generator was located outside the nuclear power plant's protected inner area.

IAEA Reports Safe Radiation Levels

The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed the drone hit the facility with one of its reactors switching over to emergency generators.

"Military activity that threatens nuclear safety is unacceptable. The IAEA has been informed by the UAE that radiation levels at the Barakah NPP (nuclear power plant) remain normal and no injuries were reported," the agency said.

Barakah Is Arab World’s First Plant

Built by the UAE with the aid of South Korea at $20 billion, the Barakah nuclear power plant went live in 2020 and is the first and only nuclear power plant on the Arabian peninsula. The nuclear power plant can supply electricity for up to a quarter of the UAE's energy demands. 

It is the first commercial nuclear power plant within the Arab world and is located 200km to the west of the capital Abu Dhabi near the borders of Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

UAE Faces Repeated Drone Attacks

Since joint US-Israeli attacks on Iran occurred on Feb 28, Iran has made repeated strikes targeting the UAE and other countries bordering the Persian Gulf which host US bases, causing casualties among civilians and on energy infrastructure. 

Targets hit on the UAE, which intensified throughout this month, came following the launch of the US naval initiative to secure the Strait of Hormuz, which only lasted for 48 hours before being called off by President Trump.

The 31 article decree, called 'Principles of Separation Between Spouses' has been passed by the Taliban supremo Hibatullah Akhundzada and has recently been printed in the regime's official gazette. The decree covers issues such as child marriage, the whereabouts of an absent husband, adultery, apostasy and forced separation.

Leavitt Announces Birth Of Daughter

On Thursday, the White House Press Secretary announced the arrival of her child, a daughter named Viviana and posted a photo of her cradling the baby daughter to her breast in a nursery and thanking people who sent her prayers throughout her pregnancy.

Leavitt said, “On May 1st, Viviana aka 'Vivi' joined our family, and our hearts instantly exploded with love".

"She is perfect and healthy, and her big brother is joyfully adjusting to life with his new baby sister. We are enjoying every moment in our blissful newborn bubble," she added on social media platform X.

Iran Links Baby Post To Minab Tragedy

Iran congratulated Leavitt on the birth of her daughter and criticized her on the school bombing in Minab claiming that the children killed there were no different from her daughter.

The Iranian Embassy in Armenia said, " Congratulations to you. Children are innocent and lovable. Those 168 children that your boss killed in the school in Minab, and you justified, were also children. When you kiss your baby, think of the mothers of those children" on X.

Minab School Strike Claimed Many Lives

73 boys and 47 girls died in the air raid on an elementary school in Minab on 28 February. The bombing was carried out as the USA and Israel launched attacks on targets across Iran. Retaliating against this, Tehran launched air strikes against targets in Israel and countries in the Gulf.

In addition to the children killed there were 26 teachers, 7 parents, a school bus driver and a pharmacy worker at the clinic beside the school.

Leavitt Earlier Defended US Military Actions

Last month before taking her maternity leave Leavitt, as White House Press Secretary, was one of the key faces that relentlessly pushed the war policy of the Trump administration. In March in response to a question from the press regarding the US role in the bombing of the Minab school bombing stated that the US was not targeting civilians.

"While the Department of War is currently investigating this matter, the Iranian regime targets civilians and children, not the United States of America," Leavitt had said.

An Indian ship MV Gautam had developed a complete breakdown in technology while on its way from Oman to India and thus got stuck in the sea.

Pakistan Navy Sends Rescue Support

The Pakistan Navy provided rescue and assistance to the stranded crew of 6 Indians and 1 Indonesian upon being contacted by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai asking them for support.

After the alert, the Pakistan Navy responded swiftly by dispatching the ship PMSS Kashmir to carry out the rescue mission. Food, medicine and other supplies were provided to the MV Gautam in order to ensure the well being of the stranded crew and also stabilize the vessel, it was added.

The Pakistani Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) is also understood to have lent its support to the rescue efforts.

ICG Discovers Fault in Main Generator 

The ICG was apparently informed of the incident at 11:22pm on May 4th and also learned that the incident happened due to the failure of the generator on May 3rd leading to a complete power failure onboard MV Gautam, said NDTV sources. At the time the incident happened, MV Gautam was in Pakistan's Search and Rescue Region (SRR). 

ICG Ship Rajratan Sent for Assistance

The ICG ship Rajratan was dispatched in response and on approaching the ship was able to see that it had limited use of communication, primarily restricted to VHF radio and AIS on battery backup.

"It was further ascertained that technical personnel from the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) had boarded the vessel. Following assessment, the main generator was declared beyond repair," the sources said.

PM Modi Condemns Civilian Targeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also denounced the strike, calling "unacceptable" the targeting of civilians and infrastructure.

Modi said on social media platform X, "Strongly condemn the attacks on the UAE that resulted in injuries to three Indian nationals. Targeting civilians and infrastructure is unacceptable.

India stands in firm solidarity with the UAE and reiterates its support for the peaceful resolution of all issues through dialogue and diplomacy. Ensuring safe and unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is vital for enduring regional peace, stability and global energy security."

MEA Calls Strike Unacceptable

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had described the attack as "unacceptable". In the statement New Delhi stated it still stands for diplomacy and dialogue to overcome the situation so that peace and stability can be restored all over the Middle East.

Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "The attack on Fujairah that resulted in injury to three Indian nationals is unacceptable. We call for immediate cessation of these hostilities and the targeting of civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians," in a post on X.

UAE Reports Missile Interceptions

On Friday, a large fire broke out at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone as authorities stated that it had occurred due to a drone attack from Iran. For the first time, an attack occurred with that magnitude of damage in the UAE since a cease-fire was in progress last month.

The UAE Ministry of Defence had reported that 12 Ballistic missiles, four drones and three cruise missiles had been detected while entering the country and had been intercepted yesterday. Residents all over the UAE received an emergency warning – since the ceasefire had been active – that urged them to seek shelter away from windows and open spaces.

UAE Warns of Strong Response

The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the drone and missile strikes by Iran. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they deemed it as a serious escalation and violation of the UN Charter and International law and said it threatened the safety and stability of the nation. 

UAE made it clear that it would not tolerate such actions and has kept its right to react according to the international laws for protecting its region and residents. Furthermore it declared targeting citizens and infrastructure a transgression that is not acceptable under legal and human aspects, thus asking for an instant ceasefire and putting the complete responsibility on Iran for the attack and the results thereof.

Araghchi Accused Of Bypassing Iran Presidency

According to Iran International, the president and speaker claim that Araghchi acted behind their backs in negotiating with Washington over nuclear talks, by implementing directives from the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC).

Pezeshkian and Ghalibaf claim that Araghchi deliberately circumvented the presidency for the last two weeks, acting more like an aide, rather than a government minister, for the IRGC's head, Ahmad Vahidi. According to sources Araghchi has been executing orders from Vahidi without informing Pezeshkian, who allegedly plans to sack him if the latter continues. There is no official comment from the Iranian authorities, so far.

Pezeshkian Raises Wartime Governance Concerns

This sort of rift in Iran's administration is not new. Reports from March 28 clearly indicate that Pezeshkian and Vahidi were having sharp disagreements on war management and the ensuing socio-economic fallouts of the latter. According to the sources Pezeshkian expressed increasing dissatisfaction over "a complete political deadlock" and the loss of control over key positions in government during wartime.

According to those sources, Vahidi stated that owing to the sensitive circumstances, key managerial positions were to be managed directly by the Revolutionary Guard until further notice.

Ghalibaf Quits Negotiation Team Amid Disputes

Exacerbating the issues, Iran International claims that the Parliament Speaker, Ghalibaf, stepped down as chief of the negotiations team following a rebuff for including nuclear energy in the talks. It was after Ghalibaf relinquished his post as chief of the team that Araghchi purportedly tried to step up as the negotiations chief.

Araghchi later travelled on his own to Islamabad on April 24 to convey Tehran's proposal to Pakistan officials. As per media sources, the US President rejected the proposal. Although there has been no official confirmation over attempts to dismiss Araghchi, the disputes reportedly point to escalating leadership struggle within the administration during sensitive geopolitical times coupled with frozen talks with the US.
