Senior Advocate Dr. Pinky Anand Appointed Judge at Bahrain International Commercial Court
Senior Advocate and former Additional Solicitor General of India Dr. Pinky Anand has been designated as a Judge with the Bahrain International Commercial Court (BICC).
New Delhi (India) October 24: Senior advocate Pinky Anand has been appointed as a judge in the Bahrain International Commercial Court. The BICC is part of the Bahrain government’s “Team Bahrain” and plays a crucial role in attracting private sector investment to the country by offering an effective jurisdiction for resolving disputes between parties.
Indian Legal Luminary Joins Global Bench
The King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has issued Royal Decree (63) for 2015 assigning the members of Dispute Resolution Panels at the Bahrain International Commercial Court (BICC). Former Additional Solicitor General Dr Pinky Anand is among the list appointees.
An Eminent Legal Career
Dr Pinky Anand, Senior Advocate is a luminary of the Indian legal spectrum. She is renowned for her large volume of legal work, in both Constitutional Law and Criminal Law, Family Law, and Environmental law. Dr Anand also represented the nation in several national and international forums including BRICS.
She has acted as the counsel of India in a number of high profile cases and has experience of sitting as an arbitrator in India, Dubai (including DIFC), Malaysia and Singapore. Anand has also appeared for India in the BRICS bloc of emerging economies and was the founder member of the BRICS Legal Forum.
Her appointment was announced in Bahrain's official gazette, along with several other international and Bahraini judges. Headed by the distinguished arbitrator Jan Paulsson, Now with 17 members, including seven women and ten men, from various regions of the world.
Global Recognition for India
Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal said, "This recognition of an eminent Indian jurist on such a distinguished global forum is a testament to India's growing stature in international arbitration and commercial dispute resolution. Her appointment reflects the confidence reposed in Indian legal expertise and will further strengthen cross-border judicial cooperation.”
Although she is appointed as an international judge, Anand will work from India and assume her duty as BICC’s judge from there by attending the court’s sessions online or traveling to Bahrain occasionally.
The first session of the BICC will be held on Nov. 5 alongside the King Hamad Lecture for "Neutral Justice," as well as a global conference concerning the role of international courts in promoting transnational justice.
About the Bahrain International Commercial Court
The Bahrain International Commercial Court (BICC), which handles complex, cross-border commercial disputes, will start work with the swearing-in of its judges on 5 November 2025 at a ceremony to be attended by the country's monarch and prime minister.
The BICC is headed by star arbitration specialist Jan Paulsson and includes 17 judges – 7 women and 10 men — who hail from a variety of jurisdictions worldwide.
The court was set up through a treaty between Bahrain and Singapore in March 2024, following the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) in a bid to encourage global best practices for resolving commercial disputes.
